About this listen

Trapped in an arranged marriage with a beast of a prince, Genya has nothing but his beauty and wits to help him survive.

For nineteen years, I have carved myself into a dutiful son, a courtier of unimpeachable wit, and a genuine delight at a tea party. Now that my success in society has planted me in the path of Mikhail Vasiliev, it's clear I'd have been better off keeping my head down.

Prince Mikhail is the second son of a traitor. Third in line to the throne, he has a reputation for violence, debauchery, and being a thorn in the side of his cousin, King Dmitri. That is until the king decides to get him out of the way—by marrying him off. To me.

Suddenly the prince of a brutal, frozen land, I have no choice but to spy on my father's behalf. From the morning of our wedding, my beastly husband and I have been at odds, but if I cannot win him over, I'll find myself in the jaws of his colossal red dragon.

By the time I realize there is more between us than hostility and mistrust, it is too late. The die has been cast, the knife thrust, and our private battle is set to topple the whole kingdom.

Beauty gets tied to a real beast in this MM high fantasy romance, featuring: the cutest companion mink to ever bite the hand of a prince, two reluctant husbands who hate each other everywhere but between the sheets, and a heap load of court intrigue to ensure things go perfectly wrong for our murderhimbo and his slinky courtier beau.

The characters, the narration, and the world.

This book was so good, I started it and didn't stop listening to it until it was finished. Bought the next two books as well. The narrators were brilliant, the lines delivered in such a natural way and the accents incredibly immersive. The story is riveting, adorable, frustrating, and I personally cannot wait to listen to the next book. The characters are so fleshed out, it made me envious and inspired all at once to improve my own writing. The world feels so alive and realistic, I would believe this wasn't fantasy up until the bonded animals and dragons. Not to mention that I absolutely adore misunderstanding romances where there is a split POV. It keeps you right on the edge of your seat until the last minute. Highly recommend to anyone who loves royal romance with tons of frustrating but realistic miscommunication and incredibly well written, well narrated smut.

Fantastic plot!

Best balanced narrator duo! Stark and Graves have equally beautiful accents and emotional inflection that are perfect complements to each other. The story is a combination of unique fantasy world, deep intrigue, and a beautiful transformation of forced proximity enemies to deeply intimate lovers. Emotionally engaging, mentally challenging, and a true treat to read! I highly recommend!!!

Aaaaaaah!

It is just so good. Enough fun plot, engaging and infuriating characters, voices to die for. Just lovely. These guys had some a-ma-zing women's lilts.

And for such a serious melodrama of a audiobook, there were some parts where I laughed out loud. Unfortunately I become horribly biased if there is one) enough great sex scenes and two) you make me laugh. Some parts with the edit to avoid too much spoiling

"Cuddling, take his penis away", "married a gremlin", "hunting a kraken to make love to it", the way he had mikhail mimicking mother in law, and my favorite string of words evere: "the kind called masterpieces by old who had miserable lives and so thought sufferering was the pinnacle of existence"

I usually have very little patience for characters who don't speak to each other but these two made sense without relying on tropes. Things get real, okay and I didn't think they'll recover. Ah well, I can't wait to read the next. Like. Now. lol

Passionate and exciting!

I enjoyed the flow and pace of the story, which felt authentic and refreshing. The story moves at a great pace and doesn’t contain silliness or fluff. The performances are outstanding.

Delightful

Interesting universe, compelling character development, treachery, dragons, and steam. More violence than I tend to like but story keeps moving to a kinder ending. Good readers.

Great start to a new series!

This was a great start to a new fantasy series. Dragons, court intrigue and reluctant lovers. The themes were similar to Megan Derr’s Tales of the High Court but the characters were quite different. The narration was excellent and both narrators did and excellent job with the accents.

Angst, Spice and Everything Nice

I was looking for something fun with magic and dragons and I got it! What I didn't expect was just how spicy this book was. Oh my gawd I needed some ice cold water and the fan on high for this one. So good! Totally recommend

I really like this trope , arranged marriage and the writing made it even better!! ... the sensual scenes were a LOT but not too much .

🖤🐉I loved it! 🐉🖤

Genya and Misha's story is hard-fought, but what relationship isn’t when it starts out with an arranged marriage?
This story is full of drama and miscommunication, and usually, that is my H—E—L—L. But I actually loved it in this book. It was spicy in a way I wasn’t expecting, not just the sexual tension but the banter as well.
What is that saying, "young, dumb, and full of … " lol
This was that, and I loved it.

The narration was perfect for the story and the characters.
I feel like this was a first for me with Sam Burns, W.M. Fawkes and I am so here for it!
