Critic reviews

"The transformation of Menolly from a terrified outcast to a woman secure within herself is skillfully handled, making her a sympathetic character with whom many readers will identify." ( School Library Journal)
"A superbly crafted fantasy in the heroic tradition....Unlike many sequels, this maintains the dramatic tensions of its predecessor." ( Horn Book)
"Although set in another world, where dragons fly and people have fire lizards as pets, Menolly's innermost concerns are wholly contemporary." ( Booklist)

Story not the best, Narrator was good

I love Anne McCaffrey with all my heart, but Menoly's character is just so hard for me to like. she apologizes too much. I just don't see her as a main character. I'm fine that the next book in series is supposed to be based on another character. Narrator did great!

Loved it

As always the stories penned by Anne McCaffrey are magical. The story of Menoley is one of my favorites. The young girl who was punished for her “tuning” by her father - as no girl can be a Harper, and who impressed 7 dragonflies is finally found. The Master Harper has been looking for her (although he thought she was a he) after he had received copies of some of her tunes. This is the story of Menoley’s apprenticeship at Harper Hall. Of course she has many adventures

Menolly

Menolly's adventures continue in the Harper Hall. She is still young and naïve about the world. She is dealing with the loss of her family and the addition of caring for her nine fire lizards. I adore Master Robinton and always love reading more about his character.

An old pal!

I have read this trilogy probably ten times and now enjoy listening. This book is perfectly attuned to all ages. I'm 90 so I should know.

Just lovely

This whole trilogy is like curling up under a warm blanket for me. I love the characters and the arc. Hopefully if you’ve made it here you’ve already decided you enjoy Sally Darling’s narration well enough. Though she wasn’t what I’d expected for this series, I find her very pleasant to listen to and her characterizations are excellent. I only wish, music and songwriting being so central to the story, that proper melodies had been put to the songs throughout - although I’m sure that’s an expensive risk to take from a production standpoint. I will definitely be listening to this trilogy again, just as I’ve read it many, many times.

always belive in one's self

It took Menolly 7 days to learn that lesson but it Took Pimeur, Master Robiton, master Dommonick, Sillvina, jorneyman Sebela, and Journey man Talba for her to understand.

The reader had improved her delivery for this book, with credibly acted voicing for various characters.

Gotta love Anne McCaffrey and wishing there was more about Menolly and the Harper Crafthall. Could use 5-6 more chapters!!
