About this listen

Jill Gardner, the owner of Coffee, Books, and More, has been suckered into playing a '20s flapper in murder/dinner theater. Though it is for charity....

Of course everyone is expecting a "dead" body at the dress rehearsal...but this one isn't acting! It turns out the main suspect is the late actor's conniving girlfriend, Sherry...who also happens to be the ex-wife of Jill's main squeeze. Sherry is definitely a master manipulator...but is she a killer? Jill may discover the truth only when the curtain comes up on the final act...and by then it may be far too late.

Dressed to kill -- great read

Lynn Cahoon writes believable plots with believable characters making each story such a good read. you don't feel guilty taking time out to read.

what is good is even if I was not reading the series in order, you can read each story on their own
However her shorter chapter stories provides some insight into the other books containing more chapters.

Another twist

I honestly thought it was someone else was the murderer. I enjoy listening to how the main character figures it out.

Better than a standard "cozy mystery"

Any additional comments?

Another of my "cozy mysteries". Although a previous reviewer on Audible was irritated by the mention of types of foods and details about Aunt Jackie, I found them to be useful glue and tie-ins for the story. Although often, "cozy mysteries" use the inexperienced unknowing main character to do the actual solving of the murder mystery, this set seems to incorporate her in a more realistic but integral part of the book/books. The actual doer was a character that I wondered about throughout the book but who wasn't just pulled out of the air. I liked it.

Litter Policeman

South Cove is a quite tourist attraction with some quirky characters as business owners and residents. Jill Gardener and her Aunt Jackie run a successful bookstore and coffee shop. When the bank manager is killed Jill’s boyfriend the police chief tries again to keep her from investigating. Fun series

Name and accent changes

Bill Simmons is now Sullivan? Diamond Lil’s is now Lilly’s. Matt was adorably southern - from Georgia - then he wasn’t. Sasha was urban, then southern - and it’s different yet in 4.5!

I love these stories but that threw me off the whole time.

Dead Banker, Community Service and Jealous Women

Its the off season for tourists and the citizens of South Cove are putting on a charity dinner/theater production at the local winery. At the first rehearsal, when the curtain's open, to everyone's surprise, Kent Paine's body is lying there . . . dead. Greg King, Jill's boyfriend, and local police detective has his hands full investigating the death. Greg's ex-wife, Sherry just happened to be Kent's girlfriend. The deeper Greg looks into the man's history, the more he learns . . . there seems to be a string of women that Kent Paine was involved with. And as usual, Jill Gardner, full time owner and manager of Coffee, Books and More, as well as Greg's girlfriend, cannot keep her curiosity contained. 😅 And a good thing it is . . . as Greg always actually needs a little help getting to the bottom of things. This time, however, Jill and Sherry are locking horns over the handsome detective and a cat fight seems likely, Fun addition to the series. Excellent conclusion.

reminds me of Murder She Wrote

As I have said before, the series reminds me of Murder She Wrote and Cabot Cove only this heroine, Jill Gardner, ownes the book store in town and has a steady boyfriend in the police chief. Once again Jill, finds herself in the middle of a homicide investigation after being pulled into it by a friend. What makes this cozy enjoyable is character development. The reader learns to care about Jill and the other regulars. That being said, Aunt Jackie's tone changed in this episode. She was harsher which I didn't care for. I have to agree with another reviewer when they said that all the stuff Jill did is something the police should have thought of right away, especially since they worked on the case night and day. That all being said it was an enjoyable read.
