About this listen

In the small seaside town of Palmetto Beach, the Sheffield sisters – responsible Riley, vivacious Maisy, and fun-loving Adalee – reunite to celebrate their mother’s birthday and try to save the family bookstore, which has long been a beloved gathering place in their tight-knit community. But June also marks the return of Mack Logan, who 13 years ago was Riley’s best friend and Maisy’s teenage crush. His choice of Maisy over Riley during that pivotal summer destroyed the special closeness between the sisters, and sent their lives in very different directions.

Now Riley, a single mom who doubts any man will ever live up to the ideal Mack Logan, must work with her sisters while hiding a shattering secret about their mother. Maisy, a California designer, still blames Riley for ruining her one true love. And Adalee, a college coed, resents the family’s intrusion into her summer plans. When Mack arrives, all three sisters are forced to confront their long-held beliefs about the conflicts that tore them apart and the bonds of love and loyalty that still draw them together. Will they allow the past to define the future?

A surprising great read.

A great tale of family, secrets, resolution, and a bit of coming of age. This story touched me. I think it's a good reminder of what is really important in life, and how to find your way.

Enjoyable

This is an enjoyable book. Good story, not real deep but very enjoyable. A good read that involves all the entanglements of family. A good writer brings them to together and gives you great visual. I recommend.

First introduction to Patti Callahan Henry

This was my first introduction to Patti Callahan Henry and really... it was a good one. I enjoyed the audiobook version. I liked the story of the three sisters, all different but when it comes down to it family is important. I liked the setting and the bookstore within Driftwood Cottage and all the characters that entered that store. Riley's story I particularly liked and lastly I liked that it was the sisters that bonded together and saved the day.

I Loved This Book...

What did you love best about Driftwood Summer?

Performed superbly by Julia Whelan, I found myself immersed in the culture of the small oceanside community and it's small bookstore.

What other book might you compare Driftwood Summer to and why?

I read another of Patti Henry's books, Between The Tides and loved both books!

What does Julia Whelan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Julia has the cadence and timing to bring out the characters individuality. Something that not everyone can do.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely

Any additional comments?

Read both this book as well as Between The Tides. You won't be disappointed.

Loved this book! It has a good storyline!

Would you consider the audio edition of Driftwood Summer to be better than the print version?

I always like the audiobooks; I get more out of them than reading. This also is my first read of Patti Callahan Henry.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Driftwood Summer?

Driftwood Summer had many memorable moments! Kitsy the Mother had a short but powerful role; the relationship of the daughters and summers gone by; the meeting of Braden's grandparents and the whole setting grasp me.

Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan – was your favorite?

Julia Whelan is amazing in all the characters!

If you could rename Driftwood Summer, what would you call it?

Perfect name!

Any additional comments?

This was my first read of Patti Callahan Henry. I love Erin Hilderbrand's books and have read all but one (saving); I was looking for an author that wrote close to the same as Elin and this book filled that space. It has a great storyline after the first chapter of "events". I like a book with a good story not simply "fall in love~romance" but one with a meat and potatoes story. I was not disappointed in this book at all. Yes I ordered more and I would listen to Driftwood Summer again,
