About this listen

Sorry. The single word is written on a mirror. In front of it hangs a Minneapolis Internal Affairs cop. Was it suicide? Or a kinky act turned tragic?

Either way, it wasn't murder. At least not according to the powers that be. But veteran homicide detective Sam Kovac and his wisecracking, ambitious partner, Nikki Liska, think differently. Together they begin to dig at the too-neat edges of the young cop's death, uncovering one motive - and one suspect - after another. The cloud of suspicion falls not only on the city's elite, but over the very heart of the police department. Someone wants the case closed - quickly and forever. But even with their careers and their lives on the line, neither Kovac nor Liska will give up. As they unearth a connection between a two-month-old murder case and one that has been closed for twenty years, they find themselves chasing a killer who will stop at nothing to keep a dark and shattering secret.

Great storyline, interesting characters. Excellent job by the narrator. I will look for other books by the author and narrator.

Haven't, but having said that, an outstanding reader, understood every word.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No

I personally don't care about perverse sex lives, I am not a fan of current government actions in regard to gay this and gay that, throw in a hole lot of trash talk, I would just as soon not pelted with these values in my free time. I some times wonder is female writers go out of their way to prove they have mastered the art of men's locker room talk to the point of one ups manship in the picturing slang sex talk.

It begins with a hanging. Suicide? Auto erotic gone bad? But surely not murder. That's not the usual way to murder a person.

Tami Hoag had me staying up till 5 in the morning - such delectable suspense! And there was the impossible romance...

As Minneapolis homicide detectives Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska delve into the investigation, they're beginning to find out there's a lot more to this than meets the eye.

I wouldn't be a cop for all the tea in China

It was OK but seemed to go on and on. Also, the transitions were very hard to follow. Wasn't sure who was talking when the story jumped around from scene to scene.

Long Winded

Dust to Dust, an audiobook read by David Colacci, about 14.5 hours of listening. Right up the alley of Tami Hoag’s modus operandi, this is a police procedural.

You may find the story initially confusing because of the plethora of character names, which seems typical of Hoag’s stories. I found myself re-winding several times. One of these names might be the bad-guy, right? Anyway, the names came quickly and I eventually kept moving forward, keeping track of Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska, the lead characters in this series … ultimately a sufficient tactic to enjoy the story. Dust to Dust begins with what appears to be suicide. The victim is an internal affairs cop, recently having come out-of-the-closet. His retired cop father commits suicide shorty thereafter. Thus is the foundation of this mystery released in audiobook format by Audible in 2014, but in other formats much earlier, around 2000? I acquired the book in a recent Audible Daily Deal.

This is a story of ‘the thin blue line’, i.e., a line cops don’t want to cross in snitching on another cop. Can be a death sentence. Oops … spoiler? No trouble discerning who-says-what-to-who, so David Colacci does a good narration. Enjoy!

Very good plot with any red herrings. Keeps the reader guessing. Very humorous at times with sarcasm from lead cop. Narrator was perfect for the book and did a great job.

Great plot and narrator.
