About this listen

Goldy Bear is the bright, opinionated, wildly inventive caterer whose personal life is a recipe for disaster, with bills taking a bite out of her budget and her abusive ex-husband making tasteless threats. Determined to take control, Goldy moves her business to the ritzy Aspen Meadow Country Club. Soon she’s preparing decadent dinners and posh society picnics—and enjoying the favors of Philip Miller, a handsome local shrink, and Tom Schulz, her more-than-friendly neighborhood cop. Until, that is, the dishy doctor drives his BMW into an oncoming bus. Convinced that Philip’s bizarre death was no accident, Goldy begins to sift through the dead doc’s unpalatable secrets. But this case is seasoned with unexpected danger and even more unexpected revelations—the kind that could get a caterer killed.

Love the series- not so crazy about narrator

What made the experience of listening to Dying for Chocolate the most enjoyable?

The series is great and the characters captivating.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dying for Chocolate?

Mother-son relationship

How could the performance have been better?

I can't stand te narrator. Can't the mute out her swallowing and mouth noises? She also cones across whiny sometimes. Makes me a little crazy- the reason I have requested the rest of the series from the local library to read.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No.

Characters are creative

Goldy is often a very mean-spirited person which makes her unattractive and not pleasant.

Fun

The Goldy Mysteries aren't meant to be serious literature or even, I think, all that logical - they're a silly way to make it through vacuuming the living room or backwashing the pool. I know Barbara Rosenblatt is a popular narrator, but her mouth noises gross me out. The listen would have been more enjoyable if the sound engineer had dealt with all that juicy smacking, popping and wheezing. Yuck.
