About this listen

Cassy has joined with Frank and his group, and the group members declare themselves a clan, pitting themselves as a group against the rising tide of darkness around them. Then the death of one of their own creates new tensions that may tear the clan apart before it ever reaches the promised oasis of Cassy's homestead farm.

Worse, they are followed by a man bent on their destruction, who would take her farm for his own group if he can find it. As the clan continues its trek, invaders solidify their iron grip over the Eastern Seaboard, opposed by a resistance aided by a mysterious group known only as "the 20s", whose identities and ultimate goals remain unknown. Events begin to unfold that will determine the future of Cassy and her new family, and possibly the future of America.

The story was an accurate depiction of groups of people on all sides trying to survive an Electromagnetic Pulse with an invasion.
A wonderful job of portraying characters and it was very easy to project yourself into the story.
An interesting listen.

Excellent depiction of EMP disaster & invasion

I loved the first book and got the second hoping it would be just as good. in the first book though it seemed like any minority was either a thug or a traitor...and it continues on to this book. I mean come on man, you can't have one decent speaking black man or Hispanic guy? i know there are bad guys out there, there are thugs and so on but give us a break... The military jargon was good, but when I was enlisted we didn't speak in code all the time. sure we used abbreviations but we didn't take it to an extent like some of these characters did. my fellow Marines and I just made perverted comments half the time but we didn't speak to one another in military jargon in our down time. The last part that bugged me was the whole relationship drama between couples, I mean the united States is being invaded, millions of people are dying... and this clan is concerned about people cheating on each other? jeeesus. It seemed like the drama was added as a filler or something to get the story moving along. I've ended up skipping that whole drama nonsense. and also, who did the author use as a reference for how teenagers speak? it seemed ljke he want back to 2001 and used lingo from then. I'm still going to get the third book when and or if it comes out.

too much drama...

I love this series because it is very informative, the performance is really good, and the characters are well thought out. However, due to the adult language throughout all of the books, I cannot allow my kids to listen to it so that they could also learn.

I have purchased several other survival-type series but this one has held my interest the most. Fantastic storyline! I worry about all that is happening in the world right now and just pray that the scenarios in these books do not occur. That is a frightening prospect. Since listening to this series, I am now ( semi) frantically prepping as much as possible! 😶

Engaged! Praying this scenario doesn't happen!

I enjoyed the sequel and would listen to it again. They are lucky to have the help of a Marine.

Good sequel

Excellent narration and storyline. Now, it's on to the book three to hear what happens next!

Great story!

This is an interesting series, but there are some definite deterrents. The content is more sexually focused than other EMP series, and crude. The characters are just all around unsavory, save Mandy and a few others. But this is the apocalypse. However, in spite of this, the complexities of an invasion of America and all that entails make this a very complex story. The reader is left guessing as to how this will work out and who will be left standing. There are many moving parts to this story, as this series gets into more than just the fall out of an EMP attack. So we'll see where this goes before coming to too many judgements.

Without Kevin Pierce this would not be worth listening to. He's the best narrator out there, so that is a more than fair assessment.

Decent Follow Up
