About this listen

It is the last night before Tanglewood Memorial closes for good, and MRI technician Mike Hughes arrives for his final shift at the hospital. Between the bare-bones staff and the fact that all the patients have already been moved to the new facility, Mike is prepared for a quiet night.

All that changes when a special patient arrives, complete with a five-man police escort: the infamous serial killer Frank Snow has been brought in for a brain MRI. As if that's not enough, Mike's wife Sarah decides to drop in unexpectedly, along with their young son, Eli. Then Snow unexpectedly breaks free, cuts the power, and locks the doors. Now he's loose in the old, dark hospital, hunting its last occupants one by one, and escape seems to be the furthest thing from his mind.

Bad

Just like death troopers this novel was extremely disappointing I loved no doors no windows but the rest of joe schreibers books continue to underwhelm he writes action horror books and then completely skips over the gory action and focuses on the mundane bullshit not to mention the fact that the story was horrible and had multiple flaws and the characters were bland and I really didn't care who lived or died

Eat the Dark

I’ve read a couple of Joe Schreiber’s novels and this one was probably my least favorite only because I did not enjoy the universe as much as the Star Wars universes he created in Maul Lockdown, Death Troopers, and Red Harvest. Still a very well written and enjoyable story but lacking the over abundance of fiction I enjoyed from his others.

Horror ruined by whining

What would have made Eat the Dark better?

Okay, so maybe I expect too much from narrators but the child voice she uses was so whiney and shrill that I finally just had to stop listening. Nobody should have to listen to that.

What could Joe Schreiber have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The setting in the hospital made it intriguing but it eventually just seemed to slide into a typical slasher film. Much of the suspsense is just ruined by familiarity.

How could the performance have been better?

A different narrator would have been the only way to save this one.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was disappointed in the paint by numbers quality of the story. Good start but it just goes downhill from there. Just meh.

Dreadful

While it started off interesting, it took a weird turn and went downhill from there. Don't waste your time or money on this one.
