About this listen
From The New York Times best-selling author Joanne DeMaio comes a beautiful novel about a little town you'll want to visit, and a love story you won't soon forget.
Harry Dane lives an ordinary life. From his days working alongside his father at a New England general store to Harry's endearing and heartbreaking relationships to sudden snowstorms to quirky fiascoes of found kittens and spilled jam jars, always...always, there is a curious constant.
Through it all, each and every winter, a Christmas card arrives at Harry's Craftsman bungalow from a mysterious woman named Sadie Welles. And when the two of them unexpectedly meet, Harry Dane soon finds himself in an intricate love story spanning 18 winters.

Story
Reluctant to leave her cherished New England hometown after her sister's winter wedding, former journalist Vera Sterling makes a sudden decision. She takes what's left of her severance pay and invests it in real estate ... in one particular drafty colonial home and old timber barn set upon the pretty banks of Addison Cove. In that rough-hewn barn, she discovers a secret treasure left behind by the previous owner, the proprietor of the long-forgotten Christmas Barn gift shop. While restoring her run-down, wood-sided home--its creaking floors, broken banister, and neglected widow's walk--that secret slowly unfolds like a bit of snowflake wonder, crystallizing hopes and dreams for many in this small Connecticut town.

From New York Times best-selling author Joanne DeMaio comes a love story set at a tucked-away cottage by the sea. For Mack and Avery Martinelli, the summer is their oyster. They can spend all day on the beach, or not. Cruise the dusty beach roads, or never leave their deck overlooking Long Island Sound. Fill their itinerary with excursions on the Connecticut shore, or while away the hours in a shingled cottage. Every decision this week is theirs to make.

How Fate Works Out
I don't understand how some people would think this story was slow. You have to be patient and continue reading or listening. I loved this book too! Such wonderful characters! I should've listened to Joanne's books a long time ago.

Boring
I’m sure there’s a demographic out there somewhere that might enjoy this book (octogenarians come to mind), but it isn’t me. I couldn’t wait for it to be over. It is painfully slow. Who the heck doesn’t just write ‘forward’ on the mail? The whole premise was stupid. Had to read it for a book club.
