About this listen

Emma is young, rich, and independent. She has decided not to get married and instead spends her time organising her acquaintances' love affairs.

Her plans for the matrimonial success of her new friend Harriet, however, lead her into complications that ultimately test her own detachment from the world of romance.

In my Austenian fantasies, I prefer Mr. Knightley to Mr. Darcy, and the twinkle in Jeremy Northam’s eye certainly reinforced that notion. The twinkle is almost visible as he reads this abridged version, and my only complaint is that it isn’t the unabridged version.

Mr. Knightley reads to us…

I loved Mr. Northam in the movie. It was a treat to listen to his narration. It's sooooooo abridged as to be almost painful - it's almost an abridgment of the movie! - but I have no regrets about the purchase.

HIGHLY abridged, but it's Jeremy Northam!!!

While I have previously read Emma, Jeremy Northam's narration made revisiting this an easy decision. Delightful Austen story, outstanding delivery.

Jeremy Northam, incredible narrator

This is a wonderful recording of a beloved novel, read by the 1996 Mr. Knightley himself. I only wish it were an unabridged version, as so much had to be left out. Still an enjoyable listen, wee worth the Audible credit.

Wish it were unabridged!

I wouldn’t listen to an abridged version unless it was read by someone with a voice I adore listening to.

Short but Jeremy Northam makes it worth it
