About this listen

A direct sequel to the events of the non-fiction space opera Empires of EVE: A History of the Great Wars of EVE Online, the second volume picks up immediately following the first book's climactic conclusion at the end of EVE Online's "Great War".

Volume Two is the story of the real players who took power in the wake of that climactic conflict, and how they dealt with an influx of hundreds of thousands of new recruits as EVE Online entered a golden age.

Based on years of research and interviews with the actual people involved, Empires of EVE: Volume 2 is a book about real conflicts between hundreds of thousands of people and the fates of digital societies. It's the story of the next five years of EVE Online history up to the calamitous conclusion of EVE's second age at the infamous $300,000 "Bloodbath at B-R5RB" in 2014.

Critic reviews

"Imagine the Star Wars universe is real, and you live in it." (The Atlantic)

"It reads more like a sci-fi Game of Thrones with iconic leaders, shocking betrayals, and devastating battles." (The Verge)

"I couldn’t recommend Empires of EVE more. It’s a special book. It’s something that will no doubt interest gamers, but is also written in such a way to draw in those who know nothing about EVE and even less about video games. It’s an exciting chronicle of something truly unique in the space of video games and deserves to be read by everyone possible." (Critically Sane)

Epic story of history of Eve Online

As someone that has never played Eve Online much at all, I found this book and it's predecessor to be great reading material filled with action, espionage, and many twists to keep the listener enthralled in the world that is New Eden.

Large epic battles between huge empires that shaped the history of Eve Online is enough to keep anyone wanting more.

Definitely read volume 1 first and if you enjoy it, you will not regret this book!

Even better than the first one! I greatly enjoyed it. The history of eve sounds an awful lot like the history of empires of real...

Captivating Stories

I loved the 1st volume, so I was excited to see this released. I've always found the stories created by player actions in EVE to be my favourite part of the game. This was the case before I ever played it, while I played it, and afterwards. It's no surprise that I enjoyed this 2nd volume even more, especially because at certain points I could say to myself "I was there".

Fantastic.

I would be interested in knowing if the author knew just how stagnant null sec was going to become at the time of mentioning it in the book. Here we are in 2023, it has been years since the last great war. It often feels as if the big alliance leaders don't want to conquer space anymore. They feed their line members to each other like bait to satisfy that every now call for content. The game needs another massive betrayal to either GOONs, PH, or FRAT. The sov system needs a massive overhaul. Time zone tanking has to stop. The timers need to be randomized.

A fascinating story about real players creating real empires.

What a phenomenal listen. Vol 1 and Vol 2 have given me, a newcomer to EVE the proper insight into how the social structures have evolved and play out to this day, 20 years later. I can’t understate the dedication of Andrew for writing this book. Bravo. Definitely worth a read if you’ve ever had an interest in this game and the politics behind it.

another excellent history

I read and listened to volume 1 which was amazing, and again, volume 2 is just as amazing. While you can somewhat notice that the recording was not done in a professional studio, it does not diminish the quality really. Especially considering the author did this himself to enable us to have an audiobook of this amaizng book to begin with.

Most entertaining and informative

I enjoyed the multiple views of all aspects of the game and the influence of external factors on how the world of eve online evolved over its long existence.
The epilogue was especially interesting exploring issues and outside influences on New Eden.
