About this listen

Here, for the first time in decades, is a gripping, minute-by-minute account of the day President John F. Kennedy was shot. In End of Days, James Swanson reveals Lee Harvey Oswald's bizarre history of violence and follows John and Jacqueline Kennedy on their fateful Dallas motorcade ride.

Swanson takes us to the sixth-floor Texas Book Depository window to look through Oswald's rifle sights, re-creates the last hours of the doomed assassin, and the day of national mourning for the president that followed, culminating in a funeral that united the country. Combining extensive research with his unparalleled storytelling abilities, Swanson turns the events of one of the darkest days of the twentieth century into a pulse-pounding thriller that will remain the definitive account of the assassination for years to come.

Another Swanson Home Run!

Where does End of Days rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

James Swanson is one of the best writers of history ever. Audible only offers the abridged version of Manhunt, his book about the Lincoln conspiracy and aftermath. I enjoyed the abridged version so much that I purchased the book and read the entire work. Like Manhunt, End of Days was perfect and methodical in analyzing the Kennedy assassination. I learned so much about it, some even in the minutest details Swanson includes. Swanson is a gifted writer and teacher.

What did you like best about this story?

Swanson's methodical attention to details to make the recording a perfect work.

What about Richard Thomas’s performance did you like?

It was very good. Nothing in particular stood out, but his voice kept me interested in listening throughout the entire book.

Well Researched

A fantastic book that brings you to that awful day. Although I wasn’t alive on that day, Swanson took me there. The book is filled with details. Especially Oswald’s movements before and after the assassination. Just as good as “Manhunt”

Informative

I was young when this tragedy occurred and have heard many different versions of the sequence of events.
I thought this one was very well done and very much enjoyed the narration by Richard Thomas.

The same old nonsensical official line

What would have made End of Days better?

Some truth interspersed among the audacity of the falsehoods and disproved red herrings would be nice. I wonder if this guy is one of the writers the CIA uses to propagandize things? It's a proven and indisputable fact that this has been occurring since the CIA was formed, especially when they had to get alternate narratives out to cover-up the Kennedy assassinations (Bobby too) and their dalliances with organized crime. If you are an ostrich and think that everything the government tells you is true and that the media couldn't possibly spread false information, keep your head in the sand then and read this book, you'll love it.

Would you ever listen to anything by James L. Swanson again?

Nope. If I want to listen to propaganda I'll get it from the media I guess, no point going out of my way to read this or anything else by this guy.

What about Richard Thomas’s performance did you like?

This fella is the only good part of this book, great narrator, love his voice and his approach.

What character would you cut from End of Days?

I just wouldn't have written the book in the first place, it's garbage.

Any additional comments?

These books would serve you better if you want to know something closer to the truth than the government line. I'm sure there are some mistakes along the line in these books but at least you get the sense they aren't biased and are searching for answers and not trying to convince you of a foregone conclusion.JFK and the Unspeakable - by James W. Awful. Truly terrible.

Seems like the author did very little original research. Needless imagined melodrama. Seemed like a cut and paste of other, more important works.

Worst JFK Assassination Book I have read.

What disappointed you about End of Days?

I have listen to or read at least twenty books related to the Kennedy Assassination and this book was biased from the beginning. I tried to pick up the story and continue but I couldn't due to the ridiculous subject matter.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Richard Thomas?

Richard Thomas was fine

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger and disappointment
