About this listen

A hero to some. A villain to many. The truth forever buried.

The man who became known as Esrahaddon is reported to have destroyed the world’s greatest empire—but there are those who believe he saved it. Few individuals are as divisive, but all agree on three facts: He was exiled to the wilderness, hunted by a goblin priestess, and sentenced to death by a god—all before the age of eight. How he managed to survive and why people continued to fear his name a thousand years later has always been a mystery...until now.

From the three-time New York Times best-selling author Michael J. Sullivan, Esrahaddon is the final novel in the Rise and Fall trilogy. This latest set of stories sits snugly between the Legends of the First Empire series and the Riyria books (Revelations and Chronicles). With this tale, Michael continues his tradition of unlikely heroes who must rise to the call when history knocks, demanding to be let in. This is the 19th full-length novel in a body of work that started in 2008 and spans four series.

Whispers of you -Michael J. Sullivan

About the Creator

Michael J. Sullivan is a New York Times, USA Today, and Washington Post bestselling author, and no one is more surprised by those facts than he. When just a boy, Michael found a typewriter in the basement of a friend's house, inserted a blank piece of paper, and typed, "It was a dark and stormy night." He was just 10 years old and mimicking the only writer he knew at the time: Snoopy. That spark ignited a flame, and Michael's desire to fill blank pages became a life-long obsession.
As an adult, Michael spent more than 10 years developing his craft by studying authors such as Stephen King, Ernest Hemingway, and John Steinbeck. During that time, he wrote 13 novels but found no interest from the publishing industry. Since insanity is repeating the same action while expecting a different result, he made the rational choice and quit, vowing never to write creatively again. Never turned out to be too long for Michael, and after a decade, he returned to the keyboard in his forties, but with one condition: He wouldn't seek publication. Instead, he wrote a series of books that had been building in his head during his hiatus.
His first reading love was fantasy, and he hoped to foster a similar reaction in his then 13-year-old daughter who struggled due to dyslexia. After reading the third book of this series, his wife insisted that the novels had to "get out there." When Michael refused to jump back onto the query-go-round, Robin took over the publication tasks, and she has run the business side of his writing ever since.

Dear Listener,

What do I want you to know about the final chapter in this series?
"After 29 years, 19 books, and four series, the final panel of my epic tapestry of interwoven mysteries is sewn into place! The enigmatic titular character, Esrahaddon, was introduced in my debut series, and at long last, we uncover the entirety of his life story—his exile as a child, how he became a trusted advisor to those in power, and the truth about whether he destroyed or saved the first empire. If you haven’t experienced the other books, you can still fully enjoy Esrahaddon. Yes, you’ll miss some of the “winks and nods” to those in the know, but this is a self-contained tale of an extraordinary man at a pivotal time in history. And the best part is that the unparalleled Tim Gerard Reynolds narrates it. If you have yet to experience Tim’s magic, prepare to be enthralled, for he is undeniably one of the best in the business, and I am forever grateful to have his remarkable talent enriching my stories. Whether you’re a long-time devotee of my work or a newcomer eager to embark on an exciting adventure, I wholeheartedly invite you to try Esrahaddon. This story is my most extensive novel to date, and, as the early reviews indicate, it might just be my finest work yet." – Michael J. Sullivan, writer of Esrahaddon

Fantastic!

Another fantastic book in the world of Elan, by MJS.

It starts with the most touching and inspiring author’s note I’ve ever read.

While this book is technically able to be read on its own, it is the third book in The Rise and Fall series. This series is one of four series in the world of Elan and the timing of it takes place after Legends and before Riyria.

The one part I’d like to point out about the timeline is that for readers who read in publication order, we’ve already read the end of the series. We know things that will happen in the future, which includes things that will happen to characters in this book. And yet, Michael has managed to keep this story engaging, link past storylines to future storylines, make the facts and storyline line up, answer questions, slip in Easter eggs, and keep us engaged and guessing the whole way through. This is a remarkable feat!

If you read Farilane and enjoyed it, I’m confident you’ll love this one too. And I’ve yet to hear of a fantasy lover who doesn’t think Tim GR isn’t the bees knees. Thank you Tim, for being the voice in my head when I read anything by Michael.

And thank you Michael and Robin for keeping my favorite kind of fantasy alive.

This series is the best fantasy series out there. Incredible story and incredible characters. The amazing story and setting just keeps getting better and better with each new book he writes. Tim Gerald Reynolds captures every character perfectly.

Great background story

I really enjoy these prequels that flesh out the history of the first novels. I love the writing too. Great stuff!

I didn’t want it to end

This book was so captivating I didn’t want it to end. The characters were familiar but I had no idea how they would act or what to expect even though I’ve read every single previous book.

Now I just want to see what happens to the Prince and if miraculously Estaharden has a place in the next book.

Loved this audio version.

I love the narration, I think if I was reading this I would not have come up with as good of voices fro Esrashaddon’s Uncles ‘s voices. They were perfect. I look forward to these books. Thank you for keeping this series alive.

Masterfully Weaved

As a long time fan of the series, I have been waiting what feels like forever for this connection. Esrahaddon was the character that sold me the series and its amazing to get his tale and see how all of these events connect. In absolute love with how you shifted focus onto Trilos rather than Turin and what you did to his character. You did all I wanted with this story and if I can beg and plead, I would love some post Revelations! You're a master Michael and I can't wait for whatevers next!
