About this listen
In a future built on beautiful illusions, there's nothing more dangerous than the truth.
The world has embraced the EVO, a neural chip that grants constant access to networks at a thought, and the ability to interact with reality through any filters imaginable. And for Michael Balder, it’s everything wrong with society. But when his older daughter goes missing, he has no choice but to wade into those frenetic shadows to find the clues hidden within the prototype game she left behind. Together with his younger daughter, they delve into a new world layered over their own, fighting for answers as the city quickly transforms into a monster-infested nightmare. And when a violent cabal emerges to steal the program, Michael discovers that he has strange new powers to fight back...magic. And the only way to win is to play...

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

In a place and time unknown, two elderly sisters live in a walled garden, secluded from the outside world. Evelyn and Lily have only ever known each other. What was before the garden, they have forgotten; what lies beyond it, they do not know. Each day is spent in languid service to their home: tending the bees, planting the crops, and dutifully following the instructions of the almanac written by their mother. So when a nameless boy is found hiding in the boarded house at the center of their isolated grounds, their once solitary lives are irrevocably disrupted.

Bernt might have graduated from the Mage Academy, but not everyone has the money or connections to launch a prestigious career as a mage. Bernt finds himself working in the city sewers as an Underkeeper among the other rejects of Halfbridge's magery. He may spend more time unclogging pipes than fighting monsters, but hey, it's a stable job, and that's what counts. Entertaining story dealing with Family, AR, and AI
I finished the Authors first series and went to Facebook to see if there was news about the next in the series. He assured me if I read the new series he would get to work on more Ethereal Earth books. Yes I was bribed into reading this book, but I did love it!
It reminded me of a much more realistic Ready Player One dealing with Augmented Reality. You can feel the book come to life as the Josh Erikson reads his own words!
Also very odd the previous reviewer is also a Householder (no relation)

Be patient
This book starts poorly. The pace is too slow. The characters are confusing and I don’t care about them. But about a third of the way through the book, it’s like the writer realised he was writing a dud, and gets his act together. After that the pace builds and builds and the characters start to become human instead of shallow cardboard cutouts. The main character is still too soft for my liking, especially since he is supposedly angry. But by the end of the book I was enjoying the experience.
