About this listen

Know when to hold your ground. When to walk away. But especially when to run.

Lily Red, known as "Little Red", has trained her entire life to become a system-acknowledged scout under her Grandmother's guidance. Hunting, tracking, and trap-making—she's a master of her craft. But her dreams of joining the elite Scout forces are repeatedly blocked by a leader of the Wyld with a grudge against Grandmother.

When Lily uncovers an impending invasion by Wolf Warband, brutal raiders from the frozen north, a deadly challenge offered by their war leader sets her pulse racing. She's his partner in prophecy, so as far as he's concerned she's the only person in the way. Little Red races away to warn the Wyld, but the city's rulers mock her warnings as fairy tales, dismissing the threat entirely. Undeterred, she vows to protect the people of Canu Moch herself.

But Lily isn't about to back down. She'll be the competent protector of the people of Canu Moch—whether they want her or not. With the three city-states planning to ignore the danger, she strikes out on her own, quickly finding herself on the razor's edge between duty and ambition as Little Red pits herself against the Big Bad Wolf.

Stay on the path. Don't stray or roam. Lest the forest decides you shan't find your way home.

:DK IS GR8! :Dakota continues to produce my absolute favorite books! In this re-imagined, litRPG version of Red Riding Hood you'll find a very clever and driven Red, confronting and hounded by an unstoppable Wolf. I don't want to spoil anything, but if you enjoy litRPGs, or want to check out the genre, I would HIGHLY recommend you give this one a shot. And now, I wait excitedly for the next book in the series. Good thing :Dakota writes fast!

The man doesn't miss!

Clean humor, compelling characters. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Never listened to a book with this narrator before, but she did well.

Fun and fast paced

Inventive spin on classic story. Good blend of action, humor and world building. Very few “leave the reader in the dark” surprises that other authors seem to adore. DK4TW!

Way better than the Disney version

The concept was clever and the execution was better than I expected, with hints at the classic stories that were referenced rather than trying to adapt their plots to a LitRPG. The main stories this one references are Little Red Riding Hood and Three Little Pigs and Dakota pulls it off in a way where most of the time you're thinking "here it comes" but end up laughing at the puns he throws in.

The plot was engaging throughout, though I found the characters a little grating at times. The overall story has plenty of unexpected twists. As for the LitRPG element, it was pretty light with skills and advancement not heavy stats like you'll find in the Ritualist or Divine Dungeon series. I exoect this makes it more accessible to the average reader.

The narration was great for the main character but lacked the same nuance for the supporting characters, most of whom were male.

I would recommend this to me and returning readers of the author, so long as you enjoy puns!

Light LitRPG w/ Lots of Puns

I really enjoyed the fairytale world that was told in this story. I really enjoyed how Dakota Krout we together various common phrases in common stories from my childhood and into a new vivid world.
I’ve never heard a book read by Emily before, but she did an amazing job with the voices the inflections and kept me on the edge of my seat with her interpretation of the scenes. I definitely will want to read her books in the future.
I can’t wait for the other four books in this series to be released. I’m going to pre-order them all.
I’m a long existing Dakota Krout fan and I was ready for all the puns and references. Turns out I wasn’t, he did a fantastic job
