About this listen

Now a celebrated war hero, Captain Kat Falcone is back at the helm of HMS Lightning...and up against near-impossible odds. After an ill-timed outburst almost ends her career, Kat is handed command of a deep-strike mission into enemy space. The objective is to gather intelligence and distract the hostile Theocracy while the Commonwealth prepares its counteroffensive.

The chances for success are slim - and for survival even slimmer.

Armed with a ragtag fleet of outdated starships, a few loyal officers, and a skeleton crew of refugees, Kat knows the Royal Navy expects her to fail. But failure almost certainly means death - or worse, as the Theocracy does not treat prisoners kindly. Pitted against the enemy defenses of her old nemesis Admiral Junayd, there is no room for error. And with a spy hidden aboard her ship, Kat will need more than her wits to survive. Can Kat enter the lion's den, strike a blow for the Commonwealth, and escape with her life?

Recommend you read it it instead

The narrator is bad. While I truly enjoy the story, the narrator can not preform male characters. Considering the cast is 90% male it is painful. When she tries the results fall into two categories; they either sound like old men on their death beds or really stupid little boys. Basically she is so bad at male characters that she gave me headaches and distracted me from the story. Looking forward to reading more of this series.

Good Continuation of the series

Good Continuation of the series though this one seemed rushed to me. The time period covered in the situation in this book left me with a bunch of questions I could not much deal with..i won't go into them since I not about to drop spoilers but still I think this could have been extended further ... still I did like it for what content was presented and I look forward to book 3

Gripping action

This is book two in the Angel in the Whirlwind series about Kat Falcone. Captain Kat Falcone is back in command of HMS Lighting. The mission is a deep strike mission into enemy space to gather intelligence and distract the Theocracy while the Commonwealth prepares a counter offensive. Kat has gained the confidence of King Hadrian, and has been given a brevet rank of Commodore. Her ship HMS Lightening has been newly outfitted but the rest of the ships in her squadron are outdated and understaffed and to top it off there is a spy aboard.

The book is well written and the plot flows smoothly with some exciting twist. The last half of the book has some space battles and Kat adds some captured ships to her fleet. It is obvious that Nuttall is building the base for future books in the series. I am enjoying this series so far. I had less difficulty with the narrator Lauren Ezzo this time; sort of getting use to her style of reading but still do not like the flat dull delivery of some of the characters.

Pretty good space war story

Nutall has really improved his writing since the Ark Royal series, or at least he can afford a real editor now. This writing is a lot tighter and has far less repetition than some of his earlier work. I like that in this series Nutall has at last deployed a military with a sensible rank structure, customs, and courtesies.

Ezzo continues to have a lot of problems voicing male characters, but I guess I'm used to her after the first book in this series. In any case she was less grating this time. Still, I think a British narrator would have been a better choice, given that the good guys are all British.

I liked the story a lot. Captain Falcone first gets into political hot water, but before long she's on the bridge of Lighting, leading a secret dangerous mission, involving a series of hit-and-run raids deep in enemy territory.

I only give the story four stars, because Falcone wins the Final Battle only through a set of totally unbelievable lucky breaks and fantastic coincidences.

This book is well worth a credit for fans of hard military SciFi.

Where is Honor Harrington?

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Captain Falcone should loose once in while.

If you’ve listened to books by Christopher G. Nuttall before, how does this one compare?

The Empire's Corps is much beeter.

Could you see Falcone Strike being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

NO!!

Any additional comments?

This appears to be based on the Honor Harrington serries.

Better than the first of the series

The reader needs to work on her secondary character voices. Sorry was fun, but not great.

Great storyline, but the reader was not versatile

Loved the author, definitely one of his enter books, but the female reader couldn't many of the men's voices well.

Series is getting better and better so far.

o far this series of books are great. They are entertaining and not overly complicated like some other books based in space are.

My only complaint is the narrator needs to work on her emotions. Most of the characters just sound like robots with slightly different voices. They all sound bored or annoyed little robots. Especially when the captain gives a order and you hear the subordinate respond as if the captain is a moron, that starts to get annoying. She does a decent job with the main character but still lacks emotion. Im trying to get past this so I can continue with the series but it is getting hard when a new voice comes in and it sounds like all the others, little robot doing his/her part in the story.
