About this listen

Iris Johansen invents another plucky heroine, Melis Nemid, in this high-stakes hunt for the legendary sunken island of Marinth. After a lifetime spent seeking refuge from the nightmares of her past, Melis has found comfort on a Caribbean island with two beloved dolphins and a staunch friend. But that haven is threatened when an oceanographer on the trail of Marinth's treasures is killed, leaving only Melis as his confidant. As a pack of vicious gold-diggers closes in on her, the only person who can help is Jed Kelby, a trust-fund playboy, ex-SEAL and fellow oceanographer. But even he could be after the sunken treasure, and he might be more dangerous than the deadly opportunists he's supposed to protect Melis from.©2003 Johansen Publishing LLLP Suspense Thriller & Suspense Island Treasure

Critic reviews

"Johansen pushes the gender boundary in popular fiction, offering up that rarity: a woman's novel for men." (Publishers Weekly)

I agree with an earlier post about the reader. It was hard to distinguish between male and female voices. I found myself going back over parts of the book to figure out who was saying what a couple of times. I went through half of the book before I got into it. I almost gave up and turned it off and then the second half drew me in a little more. It was a decent story and could have been presented a little better.

took a while to get into

The reader tries to do male and female voices -the males sound like chipmonks and the females, breathless. Her reading makes it nearly impossible to enjoy the book.
