About this listen

Gods, demons, and heroes. Standard MMO fare - or so Cerys Collins thought.

As a long-time gamer and guild leader, Cerys has always wondered what it would be like to live in virtual reality. When her guild members convince her to try a new VRMMO, she discovers reality is far more complex than she knew. Chosen by the gods of another world, Cerys finds herself trapped between warring factions: a tyrannical human empire and an oppressed kingdom of demons.

When she discovers her best friend has been dragged into this new world as well, Cerys is forced to choose between saving her friend or looking at the bigger picture. If Cerys is to be anything more than a pawn in the gods' game, she'll have to leverage everything she's learned on her home world and in past games, before it's too late. With a cocky incubus king vying for more than her loyalty, her quest won’t be an easy one.

The Deck of Souls series contains some dark themes, profanity, violence, and adult relationships.

Solid Book

The only issue I have with this book is that there is a smidge too much of the protagonists admiring each other's body. I get it they are sexy and all that but dang if there isn't a bit too much of that going on. I feel like it somewhat gets in the way of the story.

Otherwise I really enjoy the book. The sound booth theater gang knocked this out of the park. The story itself is solid, and interesting. Good if sometimes frustrating characters. Not too heavy in the rpg elements of the story so don't come looking for stat dumps or anything, but I'm ok with that. overall I would totally recommend picking it up.

not for me, maybe for you?

it's like a romance novel where the characters keep doubting their relationship for no good reason. Other than drama around this, almost nothing happens. If that's what you want, then it is chock full.
My big negative that I feel people should know is that the book ends pretty abruptly. I was surprised by it and it is like the author just cut it off rather than any planning.
the narrators were good. there were a few edits that were pretty harsh.

A Romance First and Foremost

I liked this book, but I feel the book summary doesn't really give a person enough of an idea of what this book is about. From the point that the two main love interests meet each other, they are together 90% of the rest of the book. I'm a fan of romance novels, so this wasn't an issue for me, but the only indicator in the summary is the 'Adult Relationships' tag.

I can't really fully call this a LitRPG. While there are game elements, since this takes place in a real world, some stats that should exist just don't. For example, strength. Not every game has to have a strength attribute... but even if you can't change it other than training, it really seems odd that none of those stats exist. In fact, there is never a summary of stats that gives you an idea of how strong the main characters are.

As long as you know what you're getting into, you should enjoy this book. If you're thinking that this primarily a LitRPG book, you might want to pass.

Well written, good story, great narration. But.

anyone who is going to purchase should know what they are getting into. this book is 80% relationship growth and 50% of that is flirting. The rest is mild action. the writer excels in human interaction in a "perfect world". But that isn't a bad thing. Afterall, why would you read a fantasy litrpg book and expect reality? knowing all of this, it was a great listen and I encourage anyone with a lack of the feminine view point of idealism ( at least to some women I imagine) should take a look at this book for pointers.

Romance story

Pretty dull. Long book but very little actually happens. Very little action or traditional leveling up. Mostly just a romance novel. Wouldn’t recommend if you’re looking for litrpg.

pretty damn good

this wasn't what I expected it but I was pleasantly surprised there's some pizza from tedious or knowing that I thought just didn't make any sense to be there but overall I enjoy the relationship between our Leading Lady and brooding bad boy it did a great job of establishing all of their Hang-Ups and baggage and fear of commitment / rejection Alice the best friend was a fun character that I would have enjoyed having more of specially exploring her relationship alongside her own knight in shining armor I did there are a few nitpicks but nothing that is a deal-breaker I am honestly hyped for the next book

Romance book with some litrpg

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Like others have said lots of romance ,not much fighting/grinding/game mechanics. Nor is there much justification or explanation for why the world is the way it is. I love all the narrators for this book they did an excellent job.

Just a personal opinion.

This book was in my, recommendations just for you, section on audible. I am a huge fan of fantasy and lit rpg so I gave it a shot. This is a fantasy romance novel. So if you like that genre, you will most likely like the book. The writing is decent, there are no real surprises and very little in the way of actual rpg or leveling. Maybe 1 hr at most dedicated to adventuring and the rest romance novel. The narration is great and was the only way I got through the book. Just, guys, be warned, romance novel!
