About this listen

There’s a psychic fayre heading to Whittlecombe. Alf, the witch, didn’t see it coming. Perhaps, she should have done.

Whittle Inn is up and running and gaining in popularity. Proud owner Alfhild Daemonne can afford to relax, can’t she? Apparently not.

When her neighboring inn decides to host the southwest region’s largest ever Psychic and Holistic Convention, you’d think that would allow Alf the opportunity to make lots of new friends.

Think of it! Dozens and dozens of fortune tellers, mediums, diviners, psychics, rune-tellers, witch doctors, and even a voodoo priestess from New Orleans - all gathered together in one big field.

Not so.

Alf is banned from attending the Fayre and looks set to miss out - until Wizard Shadowmender sends her on an undercover operation, that is. In the meantime, someone is sending Alf death threats and many of her friends in the village of Whittlecombe are subject to fearful fortune tellings and terrible Tarot readings at the Fayre.

It appears that dark forces are gathering in Whittlecombe.

Will Alf make it to her 31st birthday? And just who is it that wishes her harm?

A Darkness is Spreading in Whittlecombe

Wow I was truly on the edge of my seat for this one. The Psychic Fair was a delight filled with such interesting characters and a wonderful stage for the unfolding danger that is always chasing our Alf. This was quite the shift away from the typical cast of characters with almost the entire story occurring away from the Inn. I feel thoroughly drawn in to this mystery and the overarching menace of the Mori. The narration continues to be top notch and the danger ratcheted up quite a bit with some very tense scenes. I did knock off one star because of the massive cliff hanger ending which frankly always leave me a little grumpy. I don't mind a little nudge to get you to the next book but this was a what the heck is going to happen situation. I was of course planning to listen to the next story as I am totally in love with all the characters and the world on Wonky Inn, but it felt a little jarring to be left at the end as we are. Those who have enjoyed the prior stories should enjoy this but be aware we are out away from the inn and the action scenes get a little darker and more dangerous.
