About this listen
Someone, somewhere, has declared war on Kevin Kichida, and that someone has a long list of magical predators in their Rolodex. The good news is that Kevin lives in a town where Ted Cahill is the new sheriff and old ally of John Charming. The attacks on Kevin seem to be a pattern, and the more John and his new team follow that thread, the deeper they find themselves in a maze of supernatural threats, family secrets, and age-old betrayals. The more John learns, the more convinced he becomes that Kevin Kichida isn't just a victim - he's a sacrifice waiting to happen. And that thread John's following? It's really a fuse....

The story rolled right along and was worth the listen, but IMHO not quite as good as the previous installment. I thought the character development was more revealing, the humor not quite as good, and the story lines good, but not great. I really enjoy the narration and main character, the snarkier the better. Sig's character is really explored and I did find myself liking her better. Really good series, wish people would quit comparing everything in this genre to Dresden Files, one of my all time favorites and definitely a gold standard, but this series is good enough to stand on it's own.Good Series ...Great Narration

Still, narration was right on. Roger Wayne is accomplished. He even pronounced the Japanese names with clarity and confidence. Changed the way each character spoke and their particular talents.
I mean, I want to study history after listening to these books, and they have nothing to do with history. The love story between John and Sig continues with no apparent closure (not even a climax). And the much feared Knights are still lurking in the background. Did I say John Charming could fight?
And The Plot Thickens

Where does Fearless rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
The top 3. The impeccable writing style never changes and is inundated with robust amounts of humor as well as drama. It keeps getting better. . . this is as much the narrators praise as well as the author. What did you like best about this story?
Wow!! Every scene!!! The genre of Japanese (Asian) monsters; the development of a family between Charming and his ragtag group; the simplistic way in which they killed the Djinn (seemed it would have been more elaborate, but so simplified, expressed the power of will and struggle to overcome great odds-this scene became so vivid it was like watching a movie.) But please note, I hated the death of the detective. . . would love more of him. . .What does Roger Wayne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
EVERYTHING! He is so close to replacing my most favorite of narrators. . . dangerously close!! (on par with Fred Berman, Liam Owen, Chris Aiello, Luke Daniels, and Gildart Jackson, and James Langton (who should have read Hellequin Book 6)!Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YESSSSSSSS!!! I TRIED!!!Any additional comments?

These stories really do keep getting better and better. The story is unbelievably good and the narration is fabulous!! Books that I can't put down (or stop listening to) are farther in between, but this whole series is a hard to stop listening to. I can't wait for the next one. Thank You Elliott and Roger!WOW.WOW.WOW

I really enjoyed book number one and hoped Mr. Elliot would run with this story and he delivered better than I expected with almost too much information on Sci-fi Fantasy (older) truly researched monster's in any College Library, especially in Japan on this book.
I truly enjoy the Sarcasm and Humor with great banter between original characters. I actually Laughed my soft drink up a couple of times and really enjoyed video game spy sittings (no spoilers).
I feel stronger about this story line after the 3rd book and I was sold after book 1; These books are wonderfully written, the characters are pretty solid, some more than others but the quick and witty sarcasm is beautifully written and James Really did his homework on this one.
If this is your genre and you are Not under 18 then this is for you, You will love it! but the language is definitely Adult but not Adult situation except for the violence.
G. David ...
Awesome! J. Charming & Sig May be top 3 in Genre

Still a solid entry in the series, but this story is more of a one-off, like the interlude episode in a TV season where the season-long story arc takes a back seat. This book features Charming and Sig going undercover in a magical monster fight club to protect a young man. I like that this installment uses Sig, Cayhill, Chew and Molly in more of a team-based operation. It helps to avoid the Mary Sue white guy effect (aka the Dresden effect). I love how effortlessly this author deploys strong women instead of merely using them to be damsels or eye candy. While there are recaps, don’t take these out of order or
you’ll spoil the reveals of the books that came before.
“I’d tell you two to take it to the back of the van, but it’s not that kind of van.”
I feel like the clever humor and complex storylines that impressed me in books 1 and 2 got overwhelmed by the magical effects. Unlike the previous books, there were only one or two new characters with depth, although psychic Sarah and the warrior monk were welcome additions that I hope to see in future books. Instead, there’s a dizzying assortment of beings introduced, heavy on the Asian end with Oni, kitsune, and djinn. There’s also a lot of magical mumbo jumbo to wrap your head around, from dream dimensions to magical shoji screen mazes and realm portals- it was like trying to figure out the magical optical illusions of an Escher painting. Half way through, I stopped trying to understand and just went along for the ride.
It was still fun, but the endings didn’t carry quite the visceral gut punches that it should have.
Monster Thunderdome & magical Escher portals
