funny

After the fifth book, it’s a bit bit redundant. Would have liked a little bit more of a variety.

Favorite Author Does It Again!

Love the way Steve Higgs paints pictures or action boards on your mind. This series about a high society widdowed wedding planner in her late 50's describes the politics, trials, tibulations and, most importantly, the antics of families and staff necessary to produce weddings at this (or any other) level of society.

The Epilogue in Albert Smith's Culinary Capers, Recipe 11, Kent Coast Oyster Obliteration references the Story in Felicity Philips, Book 5, Wedding Ceremony Woes. I love the way these stories are woven together.

Initially the narrator Katherin Anderson's voice pitch was difficult as it was so high and I felt unsettling; but, by the time I got into the books more, well.... This gal is a genius! Her ability to represent the uppitiness, smugness, obedient compliness, and every other characteristic known is outstanding. I was particularly impressed by the bar scene with Felicity's drunken sister.

A smashing British cozy mystery series

Steve Higgs writes the way I love to read. He doesn't waste words with supurflous adjectives or plot filler. Mr Higgs has several series I am currently reading and he knows how to keep me interested until the final word of the epilogue. His "Felicity Phillips" series is one such series that is chock full of humor, well-developed characters, and tight plot lines that moves the story along at a good clip. His economic use of words means one must pay attention and know that every word is important to the story. Rarely do I ever solve the crime(s) before Felicity. The main protagonists are so well developed that it is hard not to care deeply for them, even though they are fictional. Yes, this work is that good.

I have previously read the books in this box set and was thrilled to find the audiobook version available. The narrator is perfect for this series as she sounds just like I had envisioned Felicity and Amber to sound. She has great diction and her cadence flows perfectly with the author's. intended timing of the story. I had to binge-listen to this box set of books because I got so caught up in the stories, even though I had read them previously. I am sad this set is over, but oh well, on to the next book.

Give this series a listen and you might see why he is one of my favorite modern British authors.

I couldn't finish it

I love Steve Higgs' writing, but I couldn't do this one. I tried, but I found myself wanting to Gibb-smack the heroin about 80% of the time. I liked the other characters though, so it may just be a personal preference.

Love these cozy mysteries

I recently came across this genre and I’m really enjoying it. I’ve “read” 2 of Steve Higgs series and have thoroughly enjoyed them.
This narrator took awhile for me to warm up to, but by the 2nd book it was fine.

Entertaining!

The interaction between the animals is a lot of fun. I really like how there isn’t any fowl language used.

Buster the bulldog does not meet Rex Harrison, German Shepherd's high standard

I was spoiled by Higgs's stories of 78 yr-old Albert Smith and his former police dog Rex Harrison. The purebred hoity-toity Rag Doll cat eventually proved her worth and Buster is a fun, flawed character of a dog with superhero fantasies. Somehow, I just didn't connect, perhaps because I am a 78 yr-old woman of limited means who NEVER believed in over-the-top weddings, and who loves Rex's quiet dignity, patience and intense intelligence.. and his absolute love for his human. I didn't get any of that from Buster or the cat (I've already forgotten her name!) and their human, fiftyish attractive Miss Phillips.
