About this listen

From Wall Street Journal best-selling author Kristen Proby comes a small-town second-chance romance! Fernhill Lane is the newest installment in the Huckleberry Bay series!

She didn’t think she’d ever come home again.

When Sarah Bitterman left Huckleberry Bay at the tender age of 19, newly married to a much older man, she had every intention of coming home to visit. Sadly, she quickly learned that was out of the question.

Until her husband throws her out with only the clothes on her back and finally sets Sarah free.

Coming back to the small seaside town has been the hardest thing she’s ever done. Facing those who loved her the most and think she turned her back on them is almost unbearable. But she needs her two best friends, and she’s longed to make amends with her little brother.

Huckleberry Bay is like the art in her soul. And now she can put down roots and begin to heal.

Tanner Hilleman knew it was a mistake to let the love of his life go all those years ago, and he’s never stopped thinking about her. Now that she’s home, while he’s giving her the space she needs, he’s also determined to make Sarah see that they belong together.

Unfortunately, Sarah’s past has followed her to Huckleberry Bay and threatens to destroy everything she loves. Will she and Tanner survive it? Or will it tear them apart for good?

Loving Huckleberry Bay!

This is the second book in this small town series set in Huckleberry Bay on the coast of Oregon. This book is a second chance, friends to lovers trope with a little mystery, suspense and a twist you don't see coming. And Arndt and Gomez Pugh are fantastic and bring the heat and the heart to this small town romance.

A second chance at life, a second chance at love

Sarah has returned home to Huckleberry Bay. Sarah left many years ago to what she thought was going to be a fairytale wedding and romance. Little did she know the man she married was a controlling jerk and all the plans she had of keeping her friends and making a safe place for her brother all went down the drain. After having every decision of hers control for too many years Sarah now has a second chance at life. With a little help from her life long friend, Sarah begins to live her life for her. She has a job, she is painting again and rediscovering who she is. However, odd things begin to happen to Sarah. She passes them off until she no longer can.

Tanner knows Sarah is back in town, and also knows that letting her go was one of the biggest mistakes he ever made. He stands by as long as he can as he washes her struggle to get her life together. He offers her help in every way he can, but yet knows she must be independent and do things on her own. Tanner still feels the connection and the chemistry they want shared. The flames have not died for him, but he knows he can’t push too hard either. But when Sarah is in danger, he can no longer stand aside, and his alpha self comes out in full force to make sure she’s safe and protected.

Andi Arndt and Gomez Pugh do an amazing dual narration to this second chance, small-town romance. Fernhill Lane is a beautiful story about second chances. The narrators do an amazing job, bringing the feelings of the page to something the listener can grasp a hold of to take in the story deeper. Kristin Proby created a beautiful story that the narrator’s brought to life.

Small Town, Second Chance

Fernhill Lane is the second book set in Kristen Proby’s fictional town of Huckleberry Bay and I am absolutely loving this series. This is a second chance romance with small town charm and a great group of characters. Sarah is moving on from a bad marriage and Tanner is looking to redeem himself in the eyes of the one he let get away when he was too young to know better. Their story is sweet and romantic with a touch of suspense. It seems that someone is out to harm Sarah and there is no way that Tanner is going to let that happen. The chemistry between the two of them is palpable and there are some very fun & steamy times.

The town itself serves as a character in this series with its seaside location and some truly wonderful townspeople. Proby is a genius writing friendships between both women and men which helps make Sarah and Tanner’s friends the perfect foil to their growing relationship. She writes characters that you’d love to know and want to hang around with and I can only hope that the series will continue on for some time. I am completely in love with Huckleberry Bay!

The performance by Andi Arndt was fabulous as always, but this was my first listen from Gomez Pugh and he was just okay for me.

A beautiful second chance romance

Tanner and Sarah's love story was everything I was craving when these two were introduced in Lighthouse Way. Sarah is getting back on her feet after leaving her abusive ex husband, and goes through tremendous growth in this book. Tanner is single minded in his focus and devotion for Sarah. Their relationship is low angst, but the story has a strong suspense storyline that kept me engaged and turning pages. I loved how possessive and alpha Tanner is, while still being gentle with Sarah. This book felt very much like living in their love and I enjoyed every minute of it!

As with many of Kristen Proby's books, this series has an awesome girl gang. June and Luna and the Three sisters have some fun moments and there is some great world building and friend-relationship building in this story.

For my reread I listened to the audiobook narrated by Andi Arndt and Gomez Pugh. Both did an exceptional job performing Tanner and Sarah and all the friends. My favorite part of the narration was Gomez Pugh's voice for Wolfe. It was such a nice carryover from Sebastian York's performance in Lighthouse Way it brought a smile to my face.

Five Stars

I'm so excited to return to Huckleberry Bay! Tanner and Sarah intrigued me in Lighhouse Way - there was just so much history that I couldn't wait to dive into. And now that the moment is here, I'm beyond thrilled - it was just so much more than I could've hoped for.

My heart hurt for all that Sarah had to endure but I feel that she really had to go through it to finally find her voice and become the strongest version of herself. I loved that Tanner knew she needed to heal and was so patient with her.

I absolutely cannot wait to get June & Apollo's story next...these characters have quickly become favorites and I don't want to go too long without dropping in for a visit.

3.75 ‘Come Home’ Stars

Awwww, talk about a sweet second chance romance! I’m adoring this Huckleberry Bay gang and all its interesting characters and stories, this time with Sarah and Tanner’s love tale. It’s been a rough one, specially for poor Sarah, but now those times are gone and its all about falling in love again, and truly coming back HOME…

Fernhill Lane is just as captivating, sexy and entertaining as usual staple in Ms. Proby’s addictive writing, a true feel good romance with just the perfect hint of mystery/suspense, which here was spot on, I was super invested in finding who was the villain, lol.

Thought I adore all things KP, Tanner just didn’t feel like all other Proby’s book boyfriends, and don’t get me wrong, because in the PRESENT he SO is, he actually excels at it! I know I’m a grudgeful b!tch, so the trouble is in my mind 100%, but I just couldn’t get over his reasoning for breaking up with Sarah, his high school sweetheart, given her awful family life – yes, I’m well aware it’s a valid and realistic reason! – but for ME, that’s not a Kristen Proby book boyfriend, didn’t feel like something they would do, no matter if present or past, because that led to her misfortune, when all she wanted was to be loved! Sigh… On the plus side he knows he royally screwed up in the past so me more than makes up for it. Her extremely long celibacy, to his in her face past, also left a bitter taste in my mouth though.

But she DID have someone who never stopped loving her, ALWAYS, her girls, Luna and June, how I adored this sisterhood, the companionship, the pure love, and support, wow, Ms. Proby always gives us strong female characters, so this trio is just proof of that, and I can’t get enough, specially after that epilogue, omg, I need June and Apollo’s book ASAP!!! <3 <3 <3 <3
