About this listen
With their eldest son nearly to the age when he will be drafted into military service, Reinhardt and Lillian Vogt decide to immigrate to America, the land of liberty, with their three sons and Reinhardt's adopted brother, Eli. But when tragedy strikes during the voyage, Lillian and Eli are forced into an agreement neither desires.
Determined to fulfill his obligation to Reinhardt, Eli plans to see Lillian and her sons safely settled on their Kansas homestead - and he's equally determined that the boys will be reared in the Mennonite faith. What he doesn't expect is his growing affection for Lillian - and the deep desire to be part of a family.

This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. Story
My fiancé brought me tea and scrambled eggs in bed that morning, and we snuggled together, talking about buying our rings, and about our perfect wedding next year. Then we headed into town. He held my hand and gazed at the ring I liked best, a smile spreading slowly over his face. Then a glass of bubbly to celebrate. I felt flushed, excited and ready for the rest of my life with the man I loved. We race to get on the train home. It screams to a halt and I run towards its open doors. Made it. I think he’s right behind me — but when I turn around, he’s gone.

Story
Lucas knows the perfect night entails just three things: video games, wine, and pad thai. Peanuts are a must! Other people? Not so much. Why complicate things when he’s happy alone? Then one day the apartment board, a vexing trio of authority, rings his doorbell. And Lucas’s solitude takes a startling hike. They demand to see his frying pan. Someone left one next to the recycling room overnight, and instead of removing the errant object, as Lucas suggests, they insist on finding the guilty party. But their plan backfires. Colossally.

Story
When Heather McKinley dreamed of becoming a doctor, she imagined curing sick kids and sporting pink stethoscopes. She never anticipated the sleepless nights, grueling exams, and endless labs. And she certainly never knew that her medical school earned the nickname Dead Med thanks to the tragic history of students overdosing on illegal drugs. But Heather would never consider doing anything like that. That is, until her longtime boyfriend dumps her, she finds herself failing anatomy, and her world starts to crumble.

weak heroine, extremely frustrating
This is the story of an inconvenient marriage with a very weak want to shout at get a grip and pull your self together heroine. No wonder men think woman needs a Man to think because some do. Who after a domineering husband and giving birth to 3 sons is missish like a 15 year-old virgin about a doctor exam to enter country? And of course she doesn't want her sons there. Really? Story has such potential but writting falls flat. The hero deserves so much more.

Good story
What did you like best about this story?
Eli's commitment to God, to do what was right. God's grace.
Would you be willing to try another one of Traci Svensgaard’s performances?
No. I did not like her performance. I could hear her breathing most of the time, deep gasping type breathing, very annoying.
Any additional comments?
The music was annoying, too loud, drowned out the words.

Nice story but…….
The narrator was almost too distracting. Lots of breathing noises and some of her interruptions of the characters voices (man or woman) really just sounded like screeching. It’s unfortunate. I really liked the story.
