About this listen

I don't know why nobody ever wanted me.

For real, I mean. My parents died when I was eight, and I spent the next 10 years hopping between foster homes. Let's just say, they barely did me any favors. I have got nothing. No job, no place to live and I have no one to be with.

Except...well...I do have DNA test results from a genealogy website. With close family matches.

It’s probably a stupid idea. A total long shot, really.

...I’m going to go and find them.

But then I met him. He is everything I have ever wanted. But he won't stop me from finding my kin. He is too old for me anyway. It's just a fling. Just someone to take comfort in until I can find my family members. Right?

What a fabulous story taken right out of today’s headlines. It had enough twists to make you not want to put it down.

What a start!

Two men who have always wanted love and acceptance find one another in a small town. A great start to a new series. Jay is Bennett Wood clearing out his deceased mother's home and Joshua is there searching for a family he's never met. It's a wonderful journey watching these two grow closer. The narrator did a great job with the characters and with the story. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audiobook.

He did a good job and the book was enjoyable however, the difference between voices was so slight it was almost nonexistent. This series could have been really good with two narrators.

loved it

I enjoyed listening to this book. Both authors are new to me and the story about a young man trying to connect with family (due to DNA results) drew me in. I wanted to learn more background information about Joshua and how he was connected to the brothers he met. Jay and Joshua both had to overcome internal turmoil to be together; both felt rejected by others due to different situations in their lives. By the time they realized they both wanted to work on being in a relationship, it was the end of the book. I hope that some of the loose ends that I wanted answers to are addressed in future books in the series. At the end, I was definitely left with a feeling of wanting more to the story and not expecting it to be at the last chapter.
The narrator did a great job with the storyline and kept me engaged. I plan to listen to more books narrated by Gage. #AudioBookObsession

DNA Results Are In!

I liked the concept of a DNA test finding close relatives you didn't know you have. The same thing happened to me in real life. The story line and characters are wonderfully developed. The narrator also did a great job telling the story. I highly recommend this book.

...(I recently listened to an Audible Book 1 for a new series in which the author felt a need to thoroughly introduce each character of the subsequent books and their problems etc.)

OVERALL — 5 stars
I probably saved more bookmarks from this Audible than any other in my library. The writing by Oliver/Kandi is top-notch and the performance by McKenna is the best of any other J.P. Oliver I ever listened to. PLEASE, J.P., sign up Gage McKenna to do all of your future books since he obviously knows how it's done.

PERFORMANCE — 5 stars (I listened at speed 1.4)
From chapter 1 on it was obvious I was listening to a true professional audiobook reader. He gave life to each character—not just the main characters. This is the way its done and Gage McKenna is now on my list of narrators to look for and listen to.

STORY — 5 stars
I have never heard of Linda Kandi, but I suspect she had a great deal to do with making this book so good. It is the best book I have ever listened to with J.P. Oliver's name on it, and I get the impression that a lot of time and love went into making this book perfect (and it is perfect in all categories, which I have always felt J.P. would get to someday). In other words, I believe this book was not rushed to press... maybe because Linda wanted to get it just right first. If that is the case, it paid off big time!

My rating scale:
1 = Junk! (dumpster worthy) // 2 = Poor // 3 = Good (average) // 4 = Great // 5 = Excellent! (award worthy)

I really enjoyed this story mainly because it kept me questioning the MC’s family background, I was really surprise to learn about his parentage. I had not heard this narrator before, but thought he did a good job with the different characters. I read everything by J.P. Oliver and was once agin pleased with this story. I can’t wait to read more about the Benson family.

This book has a fantastic storyline. I love the dynamic between the characters. There’s so much chemistry between them. It’s a lovely sweet book. Gage has such a beautiful tone to his voice.
