About this listen

What happens when a family loses everything and has no place to go?

Terrance Mack has a wife and two young boys. Never in a million years did he expect to find his family living on the streets, with no home, no jobs, in a position where everything they owned has been taken from them in the cruelest of ways. As the family struggles to stay together, they encounter a hard and unfriendly way of life, having to move from town to town, being harassed by the police and by locals, and confronting danger each day. Living on the streets is nothing as he expected.

All Terrance wants for his family is for someone to give them a chance—a chance for a new beginning, a roof over their heads, the opportunity to once again build a life without constant fear, having to look over their shoulders, feeling as if the rug will continue to be yanked out from under them again and again.

The worst is seeing the light in his wife’s eyes slowly diminish, along with the hope they once had. Terrance carries a constant weight, and every day brings a new challenge as doors close and they’re forced to move on. Even though they’ve stayed together, finding a place to stay has forced the family into survival mode, living one day at a time. The dignity Terrance once took for granted has become something he struggles to hold on to as he dreams of one day being able to have a peaceful night’s sleep.

Inspirational

Finding Home is one of my favorites among Ms. Eckhart's books and audiobooks. Although based on a disturbing theme, the narration keeps a steady and not overly dramatic tone. The authors' personal views on the facts described in the story are, at times, biting but never overwhelming. The characters' personalities are vivid, intriguing, and credible. The emotional journey of Terrance and his family, struggling to find a way to overcome their harsh circumstances without losing their unity and their dignity, is heartwarming. The bravery of Misty, a woman who has dedicated her life to helping those in need, makes an artful juxtaposition with the cruelty and cynicism of a ruthless businesswoman, an unscrupulous businessman, and a weak former police officer.
Overall, Finding Home is a book about hope; it is refreshing and touching. Coupled with a lovely interpretation provides a pleasant listening experience.

tremendous

i got this audio book for free, in exchange for an honest review. i have liked the author before and so grabbed it quickly. She always gives me characters that are worth my time to consider.
This is a book for our time. The story flowed well, the characters compelling. The book really is about power and the ways it is developed and used. It is also about character and one's who care. The setting is a small city with human problems. The message interacts with issues we see locally, nationally and internationally - all without taking on most of the presenting issues of our world. The audio was well done.
My only complaint, if it is one, is that it ended too quickly.
