About this listen

Elise Riley is the average girl that has never been treated like she was worthy - always second best, even by her own mother.

She becomes a victim of a crime committed by one of her closest friends and is shipped off to Humble, Texas to live with her aunt and uncle on the family farm. She swears that she will never trust another guy, that is, until she meets Ford.

Ford Kelly is the star running back at Humble High, always treated like he was number one.

Ford lives a life of eat, sleep, and football. He hates it and is starting to struggle from the effects of playing hard his entire life. The one girl Ford likes seems to reject him at every turn. But when he starts to break down her walls, there are more things standing in their way than he suspected.

Is love worth the risk? Even if it means breaking a promise you made to your best friend? And if it is worth the risk, will you let it happen? Can you get past all the bad things that have happened in your life?

One of the best books I’ve ever listened too! It really makes you feel the emotion. I enjoy being stuck in traffic on my way to and from work now thanks to Brooklyn Taylor!!

Texas

There’s nothing better than a story from your hometown. The narration was on point with the accents. I loved the story of Eloise, I felt angry and sad at the beginning and then happy mixed with sorrow at the end. It was a perfect mix and I loved it.

Sweet Story with Terrible Topics

I found this story enjoyable. This is my second time listening to it, really. I listen to it in one sitting both times. It was so sad so sad in places and so sweet in others. I hate when parents try to rule their child's life and try to tell them how it's going to be. I felt really bad for both the main characters in this book. I would have like to have had a little more of a ending, like to know if she went to college, what she did with her gift her father left her?. That kind of thing, but it was really good over all.

Problems are under developed

I thought this story was extremely cheesy and hard to relate to. The problems in the story didn’t feel fully developed. I think they could have eliminated one of the problems and focused on the plot of the overs to make they more significant. I also felt that the wording between the brother and sister kinda off putting and made me uncomfortable. Their dialogue didn’t seem appropriate but maybe that’s just me. I also wish that the narrators would have spoken their own lines instead Elise making a guy voice for Ford and ford making a girl voice for Elise. Other then that I did like the narration the story line just wasn’t for me.

Get your tissues out!

I don’t suggest you listen to this in public or where people may think you are crazy for sitting there with tears streaming down your face!! I’m just warning you!!

Elise, so strong and I wanted to reach in and hug her and tell her she will get through. She went through so much and I loved seeing her get her happy ending. My only complaint was I wish there was another epilogue like a few years later having them married or something. Ford was the nicest guy and I felt bad for him how he was forced and pressured to play football. I love how he was with Elise.

The narrators were great! I was pulled in by the emotion of their voices and felt every word. The male I’m familiar with, he narrated pucked, one of my favorite books. The female I’ve never heard before but I will love to hear more.

I miss Nathan Everett!

This story was heartbreaking. I cried and cried some more. Narration is great but I really want to listen to more Nathan Everett. I loved him in Pucked and after listening to him here I want to more.

The theme of the story was so interesting but ....

Ok so when I read the synopsis, I thought that it could be a good story of a young girl over coming the trauma of sexual assault by friends, family and a good guy. However, this story was too cheesy and to my opinion very unrealistic when it has to do with this subject. The protagonists was so easy to over come what happened to her. The book kept saying how special she was but never mentioned any thing that made her deep and interesting as a character. She was so easy to tell people she was sexually assaulted but never to the right people. In my opinion if your going to write about this subject it requires going into a place that is really dark and deep. I really wanted to like this story but I couldn’t. This is the best way I could describe this story.

what the...

This book has triggers which wasn't made clear. Then her brother went from loving and protecting her to arguing. She could have listened to her brother but she wouldn't shut up which was annoying. There was a lot of unnecessary details. To much sadness. The good did not outweigh the bad. I had to skip around just to finish.

Not good

There are so many ways that this book falls short. I wish I’d stopped listening sooner.
