About this listen

The Serenity lands on the remote moon of Abel for a lucrative job but becomes embroiled in a young woman’s quest for vengeance and a starving frontier town’s fight for survival. Join Mal and the gang in this enthralling original tie-in novel from the award-winning series.

The Serenity crew head to Yell City, one of the settlements on Abel, a moon in the Rim. Their job: track down the killers of a local lawyer shot dead in the streets by a local gang. Their client is Annie Roberts, the eighteen-year-old daughter of the murdered man.

Lucky for them, Annie Roberts is more than capable of handling herself. Unlucky for them, the job is lot more complicated than they at first think it is. Annie’s father is not just the victim of local gang violence but also the target of some powerful men.

Taking down a local gang is one thing, but cleaning up a whole city? That’s not a job for the Serenity crew. But when their ship is impounded and Mal and the crew find themselves trapped in Yell City, they realize they are already in deeper than they could have ever imagined.

My favorite series

Staying true to the characters 100%. Although not used to having a female narrator, it worked. I would love to know how to talk like this in real life. The vocabulary is one of my favorite things about this sci-fi Western . I truly hope there are more of these in the future.

Was a good one

Really nice change with the different perspectives. Some didn’t appreciate that but I liked it.

Another fun adventure!

Some folks seem to think every new Firefly book had to be the next great American novel. Me? I'm just glad for another opportunity to spend time with my favorite characters. Keep 'em comin'!!!!

Sooooooo... derivative...

This book seems like a copy of True Grit and the two narrators changing back and for seems forced and annoying.

Solid and fun story but forgettable at best

Another solid tale to the Firefly universe. These stories are great as one offs but we need to start getting into the bigger universe stories that the show had planned.

Female narrorator was a little rough but wasn't too bad imo.

Perfectly good story...

... destroyed by the addition of a second narrator who sounds like Minnie Mouse faking a Southern American accent. Foster's female voices have always stood out for NOT sounding weak and sibilant, which makes him a wonderful narrator. The parts narrated by the woman reader were shrill and -I will say it out loud- racist. All of a sudden Shepherd Book sounds like he was picked up on the streets of Harlem in her voice. She makes Mal sound like a hillbilly and Jayne sound like he's pretending to be a bear. Even her own character, Annie, sounds obnoxious and hysterical. Bring Foster back solo!

Great firefly story

My only complaint was the jarring switch when it switched to the female narrator. Her parts were a lot louder for me and (understandably) much different than the usual narrator.

The accent got to be a bit much, but it’s understood why it was there.

Each performer did great for their respective parts though.

A great addition!

I really enjoyed Cop de Grace and have been a Firefly fan since the series on TV. James Anderson Foster does incredible narration and has all the voices down perfectly. I loved the story and only wish it had been longer. I also liked the second narrator and thought she did a great job.

Disappointed

I've liked all the Firefly novels but this one. As others have mentioned, the True Grit rip off and two narrators ruined it for me. The series didn't end on a strong note.
