About this listen
The Zondervan Biblical and Theological Lectures series provides a unique audio learning experience. Unlike a traditional audiobook’s direct narration of a book’s text, Five Views on Biblical Inerrancy: Audio Lectures include high quality live-recordings of college-level lectures that cover the important points from each subject as well as relevant material from other sources.
There is little doubt that the inerrancy of the Bible is a current and often contentious topic among evangelicals. Five Views on Biblical Inerrancy: Audio Lectures showcases the spectrum of evangelical positions on inerrancy and facilitates understanding of these perspectives, particularly where and why they diverge.
Each main lesson in Five Views on Biblical Inerrancy: Audio Lectures considers: the present context and the viability and relevance of inerrancy for contemporary Christian witness; whether and to what extent Scripture teaches its own inerrancy; the position's assumed/implied understandings of the nature of Scripture, God, and truth; and three difficult biblical texts: one that implies intra-canonical contradictions, one that raises questions of theological plurality, and one that concerns historicity.
Five Views on Biblical Inerrancy: Audio Lectures serves not only as a resource for surveying the current debate, but also as a catalyst both for understanding and advancing the conversation further. Featuring scholars Al Mohler, Kevin Vanhoozer, Michael Bird, Peter Enns, and John Franke, these lectures provide listeners with the tools they need to draw informed conclusions on this debated issue and is an ideal resource for traditional students, students in distance and online-learning courses, and self-learners wanting to better understand Christian theology.

Story
Today we face a tremendous weakening of confidence in the Bible. This is just as true for the pastor offering counsel in his office as it is for the person in the pew talking with a struggling friend at Starbucks or the small group leader who is unsure of what to say to a hurting group member. We need to regain our confidence in God’s word as sufficient to address the real life issues we face today. We need to understand how the Bible equips us to grow in counseling competence as we use it to tackle the complex issues of life.

Story
Life throws us “curve balls”—from devastating personal losses to world tragedies. These events often leave us doubting God, the Bible, and our faith. But instead of pushing away our reservations, we should embrace them, Peter Enns argues. A leading biblical scholar and Christian mentor, Enns has never been afraid to question the Bible or Christian beliefs. Such thoughtful inquisitiveness, he argues, is part of God’s plan. He wants us to question, because doing so actually leads to a stronger, lasting faith.

By asking the important questions, and taking us along Moses's and the Israelite journey, Enns brings the best in biblical scholarship to us everyday people.

Story
Modern culture is increasingly outspoken against a biblical understanding of what it means to be a woman. Even some Christians, swayed by the LGBTQ+ movement, have rejected God’s word on issues of sexuality and gender in favor of popular opinion. In light of these pressures, it’s more important than ever to help women see the truth about who God created them to be. In this powerful book, Rosaria Butterfield uses Scripture to confront 5 common lies about sexuality, faith, feminism, gender roles, and modesty often promoted in our secular culture today.

Story
In this comprehensive exposition, a leading New Testament scholar explores the unfolding theological unity of the entire Bible from the vantage point of the New Testament. G. K. Beale, coeditor of the award-winning Commentary on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament, examines how the New Testament storyline relates to and develops the Old Testament storyline. Beale argues that every major concept of the New Testament is a development of a concept from the Old and is to be understood as a facet of the inauguration of the latter-day new creation and kingdom.

Story
If the Bible isn’t a science book or an instruction manual, then what is it? What do people mean when they say the Bible is inspired? When Rachel Held Evans found herself asking these questions, she began a quest to better understand what the Bible is and how it is meant to be read. What she discovered changed her—and it will change you too.
Drawing on the best in recent scholarship and using her well-honed literary expertise, Evans examines some of our favorite Bible stories and possible interpretations, retelling them through memoir, original poetry, short stories, soliloquies, and even a short screenplay. Undaunted by the Bible’s most difficult passages, Evans wrestles through the process of doubting, imagining, and debating Scripture’s mysteries. The Bible, she discovers, is not a static work but is a living, breathing, captivating, and confounding book that is able to equip us to join God’s loving and redemptive work in the world.

To Christians worldwide, he is the centerpiece of history, the object of faith, hope, and worship. Even those who do not follow him admit the vast influence of his life. With clarity and insight, biblical scholar Mark Strauss illuminates the four biblical Gospels.

Behind the scenes of movies like The Ten Commandments, The Prince of Egypt, or Exodus: Gods and Kings is a complicated, and at times, messy biblical story. In this short guide to the book of Exodus, Biblical scholar Peter Enns doesn't just break down the story for the average person to understand but takes us behind the story - to the history and traditions that led us to the story as we have it today. By asking the important questions, and taking us along Moses's and the Israelite journey, Enns brings the best in biblical scholarship to us everyday people.

Important contribution to the discussion
If you have an interest in this theological issue then you will likely find at least one contributor with whom you agree and disagree. While Mohler bore the brunt of negative criticism he also demonstrated the most gracious spirit toward those with whom he disagreed.

Good debate but who’s talking???
The only thing keeping this from being perfect is better identification of who exactly is talking each chapter.

This audio lecture series is very good. Though I had encountered a variety of positions on inerrancy through works such as Millard Erikson’s “Christian Theology,” it was nice to hear different scholars give a fuller presentation on the subject than what I had read before.
Michael Bird and Kevin Vanhoozer’s perspectives in particular were really interesting. If you are looking to expand the parameters of your personal theological understanding, or find ways to think creatively about inerrancy (which can be a rigid subject), these audio lectures are worthwhile.

Excellent!
Excellent discussion of different views on a vital topic! As someone who has worked for many years in the legal field, I appreciate the approach used by this series of lectures: using the articulation of competing positions and arguments as a vehicle for discovering truth!

Great information
The speakers offer gracious, respectful debate and discussion regarding various ways to understand scripture, and how that impacts our lives. At times it was difficult to tell which speaker was speaking, and remember which perspective they held, but regardless, the information was insightful and thought provoking. It is definitely worth the time to listen
