About this listen

Sometimes the past doesn't stay buried...

A Russian S-400 surface-to-air missile system takes down a passenger jetliner in the skies over Belarus, showering the fields below in burning scrap. As the world begins to mourn the horrific accident, one man—new CIA director, George Lawrence—knows it is anything but.

Three hundred innocents were sacrificed in order to snuff out the life of one man: Professor Alexey Sokolov, a senior adviser to the Russian government. As well as a CIA asset recruited by a ghost known as the Hangman...

Trapp doesn't know any of this. He's hundreds of miles away in rural Tuscany with Eliza Ikeda, and on a mission of his own: recovery. Both are hurting, but this is their chance at a real life. Together.

But it doesn't take long for trouble to arrive at their door. He should have known that his past wouldn't let go that easily. The question is: why did Sokolov run? How did the Russians discover who he truly was—and what secret could possibly justify the murder of three hundred innocent men, women and children to cover up?

Trapp doesn't want to know. But he sure as hell intends to find out...

Fans of Ryan, Reacher and Bourne will love betrayed CIA operative Jason Trapp, who stars in a pulse-pounding revenge thriller that threatens to be 2019's breakout hit.

Character Development

After reading book one, I was looking forward to reading book 2… and I was not disappointed. In addition to the action of this book, I was very pleasantly surprised by the continued development of the characters. I subtracted one star because I wish there was more explanation of the technology involved. I intend to read the next book.

Realistic timing and locations

Like the character development and the detailed facts. Using real existing agencies and believable characters makes the story flow better.

Seems Hangman is getting softer and slower

The first book the hangman was a total badass. The second at least to me he stated to slip and in this one he seemed to take another step back and it was more talk about who is than actual action. I felt he took a backseat to his new partner, but I still enjoyed it and will check out the next book. My final thought to the author would be to reread the first book against. It’s ok to show his human side and add a love interest, but don’t change him too much more and keep him the main character please.

I lost track of the objective.

it was still an enjoyable book, although I couldn't seem to follow what the objective was to the book. the relationships within the story I enjoyed watching develop. character development was good. I just found myself not always understanding what their objective was. It's not as good as the 1st 2 books, but I will continue.

Slow start but worth it

I was struggling to get engaged with the first 30 minutes or so but found this book just as compelling as the rest in the series once it got some momentum. There were some time jumps that felt jarring — which maybe wouldn’t be so jarring in hard copy with an actual page turn vs. audiobook format.

I liked that the writer made the woman as strong and skilled as the lead male character

The characters’ strengths and how they worked off each other . Pretty intense and very interesting story line.

The fascinating plot!

Loved the high drama quality and the amazing ways Jason meets all challenges successfully. Plus it’s great that he has a girlfriend!!

Engaging characters.

Nice balance of detail, exposition, character development, and relevance. But for pete's sake, it's "in-EX-orable" not "in-ex-OR-able."

Entertaining

A fun listen for the work commute.
My only issue is the occasional mispronunciation of some words: inexorable and wan (conflagration in the last book, although the reader for it right in this one). Seems like that would be a no-brainer to check and fix.

Book two doesn’t disappoint. Story lines based in 2023 geopolitics. AWESOME.

I enjoyed this book. It made me sit in the car at my destination several times lol Great stuff Jack Slater and Mark Garkusha. This one includes plot lines that explore the what if of escalating tensions in the South China Sea play out further than just moving a carrier group to the region.

It’s a great listen and I bought more credits to start book 3 before my monthly subscription comes with 2 new credits.
