Publisher's summary

It's been a year since septimus heap discovered his real family and true calling to be a wizard. As apprentice to Extra Ordinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand, he is learning the fine arts of Conjurations, Charms, and other Magyk, while Jenna is adapting to life as the princess and enjoying the freedom of the castle.

But there is something sinister at work. Marcia is constantly trailed by a menacing Darke Shadow, and Septimus's brother Simon seems bent on a revenge no one understands. Why is the Darke Magyk still lingering?

Wrong Narrator

Any additional comments?

I kept thinking I was listening to William Joyce's"The Guardians" series - Gerard Doyle uses exactly the same style . Allan Corduner did such a good job on Magyk - I was excited to listen to him again. Why the change of narrator? Wrong choice.

Wonderful story

This is the second book in the series and it was just as good as the first. The length was also perfect for long drives.

Great series, excellent performance.

The Septimus Heap series is a family favorite. Witty, exciting, with a protagonist who is not an orphan! Dry humor, great action, compelling story arc over the series. Highly recommend if you like an imaginative, smart, well-written adventure with a twist of Magyk.

Wondrous Wizardry

What a fun series, I love how all the characters are so perfectly original and surrounded by a wonderful story that just keeps getting better with each book. It is fantastic how there is always new magic in so many avenues of Septimus's young life. Dragons, wolf boys, ghosts, magic all wrapped up in generations of splendid wizardry. Gerard Doyle's individual voices are so good that it is easy to forget that it is just one person. An excellent, clean story for all ages that moves along at just the right pace to keep it captivating and exciting. Looking forward to the next book.

Dragons!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! I love dragons and am so excited to see who helps Septimus with his new dragon. I hope Simon stops being vengeful since that doesn't always work out, and comes home some day because he is sure living in the creepiest worm hole Ever! This adventure was fun because we learn more about Septimus and Jenna, forever working with their family (who seem quite resourceful and caring). And now there are scary villains.

Excellent follow up!

This was my third listen to the series, and although it's a bit odd to hear a different narrator for this one, it only takes a couple of chapters to get used to him. He does a fantastic job with the voices, and I am glad he narrates the rest of the series. I'm listening to this with my 9-year old daughter, and she is captivated by the story. So glad we have this to share, and maybe soon she will be ready to read these on her own. The length of the books is a bit daunting for her to read, but I think by the next book she may want to grab a copy from the library so she doesn't have to wait for me!
