About this listen

We all have a façade, a concealed mask we wear to portray ourselves to the world.

Fallon has never had to wear a mask. She grew up with two loving parents in Chicago, graduated from college and is now working a job she loves. But her untarnished world is shaken when Luca crosses her path.

Luca's mask is tightly controlled. Distrust, rivalry, and violence rule his life. Fallon loves him madly, even though he wears his mask perfectly. Even though her life is unraveling and she doesn't know why. Can Fallon and Luca work through their insecurities when everyone seems to have an ulterior motive? Who can you trust when everyone has a façade?

Contains mature themes.

Good enough…

I wouldn’t say this is in my favorites column, but it’s good enough to invest in the second book in the series.

The narration was rough for me. The female often sounded like she was promoting a product - it was odd, kind of like when someone tries to sell you on what they’re saying and not actually meaning what they say.

And I don’t have the greatest affinity for Thor Tom’s delivery. It has this sort of “valley guy-ish” cadence. Almost every line is delivered w/ the same subtle urgency and “softness” that doesn’t fit the dark, broody character being portrayed.

WOW!

What an exciting story of suspense and violence about the Chicago Syndicate. Luca is the second in command in the mafia when he encounters a beautiful woman by the name of Fallon. She has never been exposed to violence, but she soon finds out what the meaning of it is. Tor Thom sure brings Luca to life in my mind with his narration of Luca. He was perfect. Elizabeth Russel’s narration was just great!! Wonderful!!

LOVED IT.. A DARK & MEATY MAFIA ROMANCE

What a wonderful debut novel by Soraya Naomi who delivered a fast-paced suspenseful Mafia romance that starts off her series - and what an exciting non-stop thrill-ride it was. This book has a slow-build start that captures you from the get go as strong feisty charity worker Fallon runs into the tall dark droolworthy Entrepreneur Luca.. totally unaware that he is actually Chicago’s Mafia Underboss.. and he has an agenda that includes her. So, as sparks fly between them, Fallon is lured in by Luca’s charisma, charm and sex appeal.. but Luca wasn’t supposed to get too close.. wasn’t supposed to care so deeply.. and definitely wasn’t supposed to fall in love. There will be consequences.

As Fallon and Luca get to know each other and start their steamy affair, there are secrets Fallon is blissfully unaware of.. and, as the pace picks up its speed, there are romantic whispered Italian words, chilling dark drama, sex, suspense, mystery, twists and bloodshed. And Fallon slowly starts to wonder why businessman boyfriend Luca has to take so many mysterious calls, has to suddenly leave straight after getting them, disappears for days and often acts very suspiciously. As the action-packed nail-biting storyline heads to its devastating cliffhanger tbc ending (book 2 is already out), Luca has lied too many times, has taken too many chances, has broken Syndicate rules, has told Fallon everything, has promised what he cannot deliver.. and has risked it all for his obsession - Fallon.

Worth a credit? Oh yum yum yes definitely. Book 1 of their two book love story was a well-narrated dual POV adrenaline-packed riveting ride. There’s a good balance of intrigue, drama, danger, steam, suspense, violence, secrets, bloodshed, passion and bitter betrayals as possessive alpha Luca tries to juggle the Syndicate which is his life and Fallon his love. Will he choose right?.. will he die to protect her?.. will he lose everything?.. or will he start a bloody war? Well I for one can’t wait to find out :)

Awesome series

If you love mafia romance, this is your book. It was very gritty but very well developed characters. The start was a bit slow and I wasn't sure I'd be able to stick with it but I'm so glad I did. This series is now in my top five of all time.

Enjoyed it!

The plot in this one was a slow build but it made sense. It was realistic at how men can be deceitful and drive a woman crazy with secrets. But it this situation, it was to protect his love and it made sense. The narrators were good but I love Tor Thom. His voice is deep, sexy and makes you feel like you are in the story with him. I hope the series continue with Camilia and Adrienno.

Good series

I bought book one and three because I got two free from my library. I enjoyed all three. The last one is sexier and I loved that he had an accent. I could’ve gotten all three free from my library but I’d used up my borrowing limit, go figure!?

BOOOOOORRRRING

What a waste of time. This book was just boring. I am definitely no interested in the next book. Good thing it is in the plus catalog because it is definitely not worth a credit. Tor Thom sounds like his nose is stopped up. Elizabeth was pretty good but nothing could save this book. Don't waste your time.

Lacked substance & got boring

This book had potential but it fell flat and became really boring. There was no character development through out the book, the beginning of the book started out good only bc Fallon and Luca meet and flirt with each other, but then after that, there was no substance that convinces you that these two fall for each other and love each other as much as they say they do. Everything just fell flat.

The narration on the other hand was good, not the best but good enough to help continue carrying on with this book. lol
