Read,if you must, but don’t listen

The sound of a 12-year-old voice reading a romance novel is off-putting. I never got use to the squeaky voice, and lack of emotions It’s the second book in the trilogy, so I was determined to complete it, but it took longer to listen to with me constantly wanting to throw it across the room.

Good Storyline, but...

Sarah Scott's narration was good, but she doesn't change her voice between characters. In addition to, it was hard to keep up with the storyline because Scott's lack of pauses when the scenes, chapters, etc.

Love this imaginative time

I enjoyed the story and all the fanciful talents of the characters. Would love to see this series in a movie.

why this narrator

I am a hugh Lowell fan and I read this trilogy many years ago when it was first released. My eyesight isnt what it used to be so I enjoy audio books often. I was so excited when I found the trilogy on audio the 1st book was great but I felt let down with the narration of this book. The narrator read this book like she wished she was doing something else. My wish is that the narrator of the 1st book would have read the whole trilogy.

Weakest of the trilogy...but essential

Wow...did I miss Anne Flosnik. The narration in this book was not that great. It was a real let down after Anne Flosnik's outstanding performance in the first and third books in the series.
I felt like this book was a let down when compared to the first and last book. It seemed like there was no real story. There was romance and it was good, but the story lacked so much substance. I never really got enthralled in the story like I did in the first and third books. It seemed like the book was just ..."nobody can touch Amber but one person" over and over and over. I almost didn't even care about the outcome. I was pretty bored.
Within minutes of listening to the first and third book I did't want to pause them. The second book just didn't deliver...but it is ESSENTIAL! And I don't consider it a waste of time...just not up to par.
The trilogy as a whole is outstanding...with a little weak spot in the middle!

Wow this is an amazing trilogy!

I didn't realize the all 3 of the Disputed Lands book would be so good. I knew Untamed (book 1) was highly reviewed and I liked it very much. But this story appealed to me more than the first. It took me a little while to get used to the narrator. But soon she became as intergal as the characters themselves. This is a very unexpected tale, passionate and heartbreaking. Seriously be prepared to love and then hate and then love again. I also applaud the ending, as it contains a very natural setup for the final book- Enchanted: about Simon and Arielle. It's not forced at all. I felt there was some unspoken backstory between them and am eager to start the final book.
I suggest starting from the beginning. This is book two. Untamed is the first book. The story is rich with character development. This is a trilogy that literally starts where the last book ended. Many of the chracters are in all three books. For anyone embarking on the journey of this Medieval Trilogy, consider yourself lucky. Enjoy every minute.

I'm highly recommend this book and this trilogy. One of the best "series" you will find.

Quick note: there is a lot of sadness in this one. Duncan can be cruel. And Amber is such a lovable heroine. But it is worth it. I was prepared from reading reviews. I said in my review for Untamed that I couldn't review it better than the DIK review online. I feel the same about this one.

Cheers.

Great start but just okay.

What did you like best about Forbidden? What did you like least?

I was expecting the same type of story as Book 1 but was disappointed. It was a good story but should have been a novella. Not enough plot for the time spent.

If you’ve listened to books by Elizabeth Lowell before, how does this one compare?

I loved the Book 1 of this series. This book didn't have enough meat and too much sex. I'm not a prude but plot should have more pages than the lovemaking.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narrator was American and pronounced the name LaSabre as Lasaber. If you read the first book and knew what the name was supposed to be, it threw you off. It made think the heroine was a silly American girl who didn't know how to pronounce the Norman name. And she did not use much inflection. That made it hard to follow since the POV changed a lot.

Any additional comments?

I think, due to the narrator, I might have enjoyed it better in print.

Lovin' Lowell!

Elizabeth Lowell never fails to entertain! This is book 2 of a Medievil series, so be sure you get the first one....even though the story does stand alone. Get the series....you'll love it!
Attention to detail, but not so much that you are inunduated with "noise," cleanly written and a wonderful escape!
