Publisher's summary

A first kiss at a party. That kiss haunts me to this day. No kiss after that has ever made me feel anything comparable. But it happened during a party game. The lights were turned off, so I have no idea who kissed me.

That summer, I fell for two amazing boys: Chase and Reid. Everything fell apart when they became my stepbrothers, and things between us changed. Our friendship ended and was replaced by indifference and distance.

Three years later, I’m back in Star Cove and so are Chase and Reid with their two hot and friendly best friends Bryce and Parker. This is the summer before college, and I’m stuck in the past between my forbidden stepbrothers, the boy I’m dating, and a kiss that’s lost forever.

Warning: This book is part of a trilogy and ends in a cliff-hanger. This is a why-choose story where the heroine won’t have to choose between her different love interests and has sexual scenes, swearing, and mild violence. Suitable only for listeners aged 18+.

Love it

I loved this book as an ebook and I love it just as much as a audio book! I was a little surprised that it was a male voice but it didn’t make a difference to me.

This book was absolutely amazing! I have never read a stepbrothers book before and honestly was a little hesitant. But I read it and instantly fell in love! I had a hard time putting it down. The relationship or should I say “non” relationship between Kaya and her stepbrothers was well written. It was interesting to see how there relationship went from friendly to almost hostile with each other. Oh and the Mark thing, perfect conflict for this book. The Twins two best friends were great too. I loved how they interact with Kaya and stand up for her. Needless to say I need more and can’t wait for the next book!

Interesting have a male narrator only!

Ok so something I will admit, I had NO idea that the narrator was a male until I starting listening haha. I hadn't heard of them before so I was shocked when the deep husky voice graced my presence haha. I will say I looooove him on the male voices and I hope he does more in the RH genre so I can listen to him more often 😉 (I listen to non-RH books also but I tend to gravitate towards them). I thought AZ did a great job with the different male voices, it was nice to have them different and his inflections were really great and spot-on. He did grumpy and conflicted really well (Chase and Read), a horrible human being (Marc), privileged (Duncan) and adorable and caring (Bryce and Parker). Fantastic portrayals.

Now when he is doing the female characters, I thought he wasn't as strong. I would give him 5 stars for the male voices and 3 stars for the female voices (which is why I gave him 4 overall). I think he became little screechy when doing Nic's part and sometimes with Kaya. I think he made her sound like a preteen/Valley girl, if that makes sense. But overall I would listen to him again since he nailed the male parts and most of the time he wasn't using a tone I couldn't listen to (I have listened to other guys do women voices and it wasn't pretty - this was not the case for this audiobook).

For the actual story, I definitely enjoyed it! I loved the step brother trope and I loved Bryce and Parker. I cannot wait to get to the next part of the story. This definitely had some light bully, a ton of angst, and it packed a boatload of tension. I wanted to shake Duncan (the reveal at the end crushed my heart but still, what he is requiring is of Chase and Reid), I wanted to hug Bryce and Parker, and I was super happy with karma coming back on Marc 😂😂😂. I think what held me back from giving it 5 stars was that some of Kaya's feelings got pretty repetitive (and same for her step brothers, but not as bad). I think some of that could have been filtered/scaled back so that it wasn't so similar and Kaya kept harping on the same couple statements. I think if that had been edited back a bit this would easily be a 5 star for me. It just made Kaya seem younger and more naive than I think was trying to be presented. And couple that with how AZ made her seem super young, flighty, Valley-girl, it just didn't make me love Kaya 100% (and certainly not her best friend).

I would recommend this audiobook and will definitely be listening to book 2 and 3 once they are written and available haha. Definitely going to check out more Melissa's books. I have had them on my TBR for awhile now and this definitely convinced me to bump them up on the list 😊

Star-crossed step-siblings 💔

First loves, cruel twists of fate, repressed feelings, grief over lost time and potential, obsession from afar... This story has all that soaked in angst and unacted sexual tension.

I really liked how the step-father has such a good relationship to his wife and step-daughter. It's just too bad his sons didn't know how to deal with their attraction to Kaya so they went from being fast friends, to acting cold or downright hostile towards her. For years, she didn't know what caused them to suddenly hate her overnight. The worst part was that it wasn't even her fault!

The Mark drama perfectly showcases how you can find "nice guys" and red pillers in any social class. The whole "leading him on" thing disgusted me. I was so disappointed in Kaya's mother for making things worse and blaming Kaya like she was some kind of "temptress" and that men cannot form genuine friendships with the opposite sex.

I was so not ready for the ending. I want to know what happens next! All those forbidden acts and the secrets kept. The narrator did a great job, especially with all of the male voices. His performance with the female voices were just as expected...but it was tolerable (dare I say even better than what some female narrators can do?).

Meh

Honestly the storyline wasn’t bad but the FMC was so annoying to me. So naive and immature. I’m not sure if it was the writing or the narration, probably both that made her seem so much younger and I honestly couldn’t really find much to like about her. The inner monologue was so repetitive and frustrating. I won’t be listening to the next one.
