About this listen

Into a dying star...

Beneath the roiling surface of Betelgeuse, scientists anxiously await the one man essential to the success of Starmuse, the greatest engineering project in human history. But on Kantano’s World, Willard Ruskin battles invisible agents for control of his life, his physical form, and even his memories. Drawn into a conflict from which not even death will free him, Ruskin must find a way to reach Betelgeuse before his enemies sabotage Starmuse—and humanity’s future among the stars. A harrowing journey from inside the human cell... to the mind of a dying star.

A stunning blend of hard science fiction with moving characterization, both human and otherwise. Introduces the robot Jeaves, familiar to readers of The Chaos Chronicles. From the Nebula-nominated author of Eternity’s End.

Nice story. I got into it. It just wasn't really outstanding for me.

It was good.

I read his chaos chronicles series and knew this series fit in sharing a character, that being Jeeves. I'm still wondering how Jeeves 🤔 made it to shipworld. completely different dynamic. While there was politics on shipworld people were not trying to assassinate each other, and there was no suspicion between John, and his companions. I t wasn't bad, just wasn't what I was used to from author. The next book I'm guessing will two women exploring the starstream. I have plenty of Audible credits. 😀

I enjoyed it. Different from chaos chronicles tho

There were several things about this book that really disappointed and irritated me. I had expected something better from Mr. Carver.

I almost didn’t read past the first couple of chapters. The story just didn’t pull me in right from the start. I thought it was slow and boring. But I decided to see if it would pick up the pace and pique my interest further into the story.

The thing that irritated me the most was the author’s use of the fabricated genderless pronouns. He just HAD to promote the LBGT agenda, I guess.

Lastly, I hated the way he ended the story! He really missed the opportunity to make the most of the gateway concept and chose instead to give us some nonsense about a star’s “consciousness.” Very disappointing!

The narrator did a great job, however.

Disappointed
