About this listen

From the Rez to the Mountaintop: Becoming Who We're Meant to Be is the hopeful journey of an Indigenous woman on her path to healing, self-love and self-mastery. Told in three parts: love, work, and grow, this narrative nonfiction story provides listeners the space to consider their own story and capacity to pursue self-mastery and become the person they were meant to be.

McLean believes reconciliation is as much a personal journey as it is a societal one. Through the telling of personal story and lessons picked up along the way, author Erica McLean believes through love, work and the pursuit of growth, we can change our worlds. We can reach the peak of our own mountains.

Erica McLean shares her personal journey of strength, growth and resilience as a young Indigenous woman leaving the reserve to develop herself as a mother, student, teacher and coach. Erica’s narration is raw, emotional, and shows her bravery in a very powerful Gitxsan voice. Erica weaves connections to culture, education and athletics throughout her story building a beautiful tapestry for the reader to clearly understand her journey to mastery. I truly hope school districts use this book in their curriculum as it surely will encourage other young Indigenous youth to follow their dreams even when the path is not always clear.

A beautiful story of resilience and mastery!
