Publisher's summary
Peter Sinclair stumbles across a deadly Communist plot!
On a routine patrol, HM Submarine Searcher strikes an unidentified moving object where no obstruction should have been and sinks to the bottom of the sea.
Her Captain, Lieutenant Peter Sinclair, RN, is court-martialed.
Given the chance to clear his name, Sinclair joins HMS Ross, an ocean survey ship, and is put in command of one of her small submersibles. Together with junior officer Vasco Banks and Lieutenant Hank Jefferson, US Navy, Sinclair surveys the Sumba Straits, where the disaster took place, in an attempt to discover what scuppered Searcher.
But they are not alone. A Russian spy ring, headed by Sinclair's old enemy, Colonel Yakov, is also showing interest in the Straits.
Suspecting there may be a Communist spy in their midst, a false Admiralty chart is used to lure the enemy agent into the open.
But can Sinclair discover the truth before it's too late?

Story
The story of Tang and her gallant crew ranks with the most amazing of naval history. Between August 1943 when she was commissioned and her loss in fall 1944, Tang completed four missions and was on her fifth in the Formosa Strait, single-handedly demolishing a convey. During this time, Tang had one captain: Commander Richard Hetherington O'Kane. Together, Tang, her crew of 86 men, and her captain sank more tonnage and more enemy ships than any other submarine on active patrol.

Story
The USS Seawolf was one of the greatest submarine raiders of all time. Having narrowly avoided the attack on Pearl Harbor the Seawolf set out for the seas of the Pacific to wreak havoc on Japanese shipping. Joseph Melvin Eckberg was on the Seawolf from her maiden voyage and remained with her until January 1943. As chief radioman he was instrumental in assisting Captain Frederick Warder to find and destroy enemy targets. From the claustrophobia of being trapped under water and the overwhelming fear of depth charges to the joys of aiding the war-effort and the camaraderie on the ship.

Great story, but not a submarine novel…
Great story telling, and great performance by the narrator. Unfortunately once again in this series, there is barely 20 minutes of actual submarine content; the rest is the main character running around playing spy. Disappointed.
