About this listen

Simply because your world collides with a shooting star doesn’t mean that’s a sign, does it?

Cooper Davis has a nice life he’s quite fond of. He has a wonderful family, good friends, and a job he excels at. As a fixer with Torus Intercession, he’s entrusted with the well-being of the people relying on his guidance. He is protector, guardian, but most of all, as his boss always says, everyone needs to be better off once he leaves. The issue is, when he’s asked to watch over the actor Ashford Lennox, he’s not sure that leaving is what he wants to do.

Ashford Lennox is a movie star on the rise. He has everything he’s ever wanted, except someone to love and call his own. He’s learned over the years that home is not a place but sharing a life with one special person you can count on. When he meets the man tasked with keeping him safe during a wedding, it’s like a lightning bolt. Suddenly he can see his whole future unfolding.

Being on the same page is an epiphany for both, now if they could just make it to the happily ever after without getting shot…

Good story. Great narration.

I am enjoying the Torus Intercession series. It is like a cup of hot cocoa, a warm sweater, and a crackling fire on a cold winter night. The series feels comfortable. The characters are charming, and the story is sweet. I didn't connect with Cooper and Ashford as well as I have in previous books of the series, but I was entertained by their romance.

The narration was spectacular. I adore Gary Furlong's voice, and his narration performance is very smooth.

More Loose Ends Than Usual

The ending was honestly unexpected. It’s not a cliffhanger, it’s more of a “where is the rest of the book?” If you’re just in it to get a fix of Calmes’ characters and writing style, maybe this book is for you, however my reaction is still one of slight disbelief. What struck me as major issues and events brought up in the book as things a reader could reasonably expect to happen simply were dropped. This isn’t a HEA. It has the precarious potential of a new and unsettled relationship, unlike other main couples in other books of this series. If you get your warm-fuzzies from resolution, this may disappoint.

Unlike other books in this series, the prose paints some important issues in broad strokes rather than detail, also. It’s accepted that these books are over the top, but some of the interactions are overblown even for the genre (I’m not sure if artistic temperament is supposed to be the reason for this or what, but at least one individual appeared to need professional counseling, and since the topic hasn’t been ignored in other books it was odd that it was glossed over in this one.)

While many of the same enjoyable aspects of the over-all series are present, not many are fleshed out, deeply explored or settled.
