About this listen

To kill the gods, I must lay with the goddesses.

After my time in the army and then finding myself in the mountains of Tibet, I was ready to lay low, to relax. It was time to go home.

Or so I thought. No sooner had I set about returning to the normal life then I found myself swept up in a mission to kill the gods in order to save the life of someone very dear to me.

The only problem with killing gods aside from, well, having to kill gods? First I had to be able to reach them through a ritual of intimacy and death. Yeah, you can see where that might be problematic.

What follows is a tale of godly proportions with harem elements and downright dirty deeds.

I enjoyed the read

I enjoyed hearing this story. the MC get some serious changes in his life and that was interesting to see how he adapted. a little light on the supporting cast but I have hopes that we will have more time to flesh that out in book 2.

Crazy story about hunting and killing a God.

I have to admit that there were some very good scenes in this story but the overall concept was a little crazy. This Harem type of story is not really my thing but I did stick with the story to find out how the end went. The final Death of the God was worth the wait. I received this Audio Book for free in exchange for an unbiased review. No Bad!

A romance book for guys

Interesting story with great narration.

If you enjoy mythology and romance, then you will probably like this audio book.

Some stuff happens, and then the main character travels to the land of the gods to rescue the spirit of his nephew.

He meets up with Cleopatra and other ladies of renown from mythology to get freaky and save is nephews soul.

Interesting, steamy, and not necessarily for everyone, but it can be fun.

Cool idea, but the execution is a little "meh"

This was one of those books for me that never really rose beyond "acceptable". There were some cool elements, but nothing really stood out to me. I had a really hard time staying engaged with the material, but I stuck with it in the hopes of a really killer final fight scene... there was a fight scene, and it was pretty decent, but not enough to save this book from a decidedly "meh" rating from me.

Here are 5 things that I liked about the book:
1. Crafting a world where all the pantheons of the ancient world exist and some of the more well-known characters from Earth's past exist as slaves and consorts is a super cool idea.
2. Dyonisis was hands-down the best character in the book. I'd love to hang out with that guy!
3. The MC has very clear motivations from the beginning. I appreciate that he carried them through to the end of the book.
4. I liked the soul energy mechanic as a concept. Makes me wonder how the author will carry it through any planned sequels.
5. Discussing post-war PTSD in a fairly healthy way through intensive meditation training was really smart. I know several veterans that took similar paths to heal, albeit not going the full-on monastery route that the MC took.

Here are 5 things that I did not care for:
1. I'm sorry to say this, but the erotic scenes felt pretty juvenile. I totally respect how hard they are to write. I got tripped up on my most recent attempt at NaNoWriMo last year because I just couldn't make it work out. Props for trying!
2. I REALLY wanted more from that final battle with Apep. There was so much potential to make it feel really epic. It was a good scene to be sure, just not as awesome as I felt like it should have been.
3. This might just be a "me thing", but having characters like Hela and Cleopatra calling the MC "Steve" made it really hard to take the book seriously. I know Sydney Allen is going for an everyman thing here, but I couldn't suspend my disbelief on that one.
4. I feel like the narrator's choices for several of the female voices (Cleopatra's most especially so) were not super great. I totally commiserate with some of the challenging tonal qualities for several of the regional dialects, but you can't make the Queen of the Nile sound like she's from Berlin.
5. Really the whole story felt like something was missing. That was an ASTRONOMICALLY FAST rise to power for Steve. Probably would have been better served to draw this one out a little bit.

So there you have it, folks. I didn't hate the book by any means, but I really wanted a more cohesive narrative with some more refined erotica embedded to enhance the story. While I have been pretty critical of this book, I do want to say congratulations to Sydney Allen for finishing and publishing the book. It's an achievement to be published to be sure, and I am grateful for the entertainment the book provided on my daily commute for the past week. I look forward to more tales in the future!

Clever Story... Kept My Interest Throughout

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

Being a fan of this genre, i was looking forward to starting this audiobook. It’s a bit different than other books and series that I’ve listened to, but I still found it enjoyable. There’s NSFW activity, but I didn’t think it was over the top. Violence was also there, but again it wasn’t too much for me. If anything, I found myself wishing the story was a little longer and that the author went into more detail. I can recommend this to any fans of this genre.

Narration was good, and sound quality was fine. I felt drawn in by the narrator, which is usually my measure of his or her skill. I’ll definitely seek out other books he’s done.

Good but too short

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The concept of this book is very cool with lots of great ideas but this should have been 2 or 3 books instead of one short one. The narration by Arthur J. Hoyt was good.
