About this listen

The Twin Gargoyles Who Would Be King

We've spent our long existence seeking the next Gargoyle Queen. Centuries ago we failed and were banished to the cruelest existence. That exile will be nothing next to the catastrophe the realms face if we fail our fated mate.

Too bad she has no idea we exist.

The Unsuspecting Human Who Might Be Queen

I've been invisible my entire life. Wishing for the right someone to notice me, I tapped into something mystical and got so much more than I bargained for. Now two gorgeous gargoyles insist I'm their queen and their mate . . . if I can survive the royal selection trials.

Will these fated mates fly away to find happily ever after? Or will a centuries-old rivalry destroy their world and ours?

Contains mature themes.

Monster twin gargoyles in need of a queen!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☹️😮😋😉🥰
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Rosemarie - she just graduated from college and lost her job as a hospice care nurse in the same week. She loved her job, but apparently needed a masters degree to keep her position. She thinks she might be going crazy, because she has been seeing what she thinks might be the same two gargoyle statues all around town, even near her house. Rather than making her afraid, the appearance of the statues and the fact that she sometimes think she sees them move have only been enhancing her dreams in which they are her protectors.

The Heroes: Jace and Atticus - they are twin gargoyles who are meant to be kings. Though in order to claim their crown, they have to choose a queen to be the future of the bridge of souls. They had chosen a queen in the past. She had to face some trials and if she wins the trials she is able to be queen, but they chose wrong before and once the woman passed the trials, she chose to die rather than be mate to Jace and Atticus forever and they were cursed to be stone guardians of the bridge of souls for a century. This time, Atticus is sure that Rosemarie is their queen, though Jace doesn’t want to chance putting Rosemarie in danger.

The Story: To make Rosemarie their queen, the twins have to get Rosemarie to their realm, and to do that, Atticus hires a demon to sell her to them. They are worried about the danger to Rosemarie, but her self-esteem is pretty low and doesn’t believe that the two of them really want to protect her. She is used to her friends getting all the attention and men ignoring her. She is even more wary when she realizes that they are not just a joke or part of the halloween haunted house tour and are actually gargoyles that have come to life.

I like monster romance because you get all different kinds of plots and storylines. Nothing is just formulaic. In this one I liked the fact that Jace and Atticus were such different characters. Atticus was the grumpy, broody twin who is a bit harsh, but loves his brother and wants Jace to let go of the guild he feels over the suicide of the woman they chose for their queen a hundred years ago, and also Jace has low self esteem over the fact that she chose death over being with him. Jace is the sweet brother who easily falls in love with Rosemarie, but wants to protect her. There is also a good storyline about someone who is out to get Rosemarie.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view and was narrated in dual narration by Kit Swann and Jack Calihan. Kit Swann has a decent voice and is great at sounding natural while being expressive. Jack Calihan sounds a bit old for the two gargoyles. Though his voice isn’t annoying, so I didn’t mind so much. Overall, the narration was ok, but not great.
