About this listen

From the bestselling author of Alone and The Killing Hour comes a thriller that goes from heartbreaking to heartstopping in the blink of an eye.…

When someone you love vanishes without a trace, how far would you go to get them back?

For ex-FBI profiler Pierce Quincy, it’s the beginning of his worst nightmare: a car abandoned on a desolate stretch of Oregon highway, engine running, purse on the driver’s seat. And his estranged wife, Rainie Conner, gone, leaving no clue to her fate.

Did one of the ghosts from Rainie’s troubled past finally catch up with her? Or could her disappearance be the result of one of the cases they’d been working–a particularly vicious double homicide or the possible abuse of a deeply disturbed child Rainie took too close to heart?

Together with his daughter, FBI agent Kimberly Quincy, Pierce is battling the local authorities, racing against time, and frantically searching for answers to all the questions he’s been afraid to ask. One man knows what happened that night. Adopting the alias of a killer caught eighty years before, he has already contacted the press. His terms are clear: he wants money, he wants power, he wants celebrity. And if he doesn’t get what he wants, Rainie will be gone for good. Sometimes, no matter how much you love someone, it’s still not enough.

As the clock winds down on a terrifying deadline, Pierce plunges headlong into the most desperate hunt of his life, into the shattering search for a killer, a lethal truth, and for the love of his life, who may forever be…gone.

Lots of twists and turns. Fraught emotions. INTENSE. Important issues.
Preferred the narrator from the previous books in the series.

Intense until the end

I enjoyed the book beginning to end. It had story plot and brought me along for the ride. Details given had you on edge to know what’s going to happen next.

Enjoyed this Book!

Excellent narration! Started out a little slow but it picked up and turned out to be a really good book. There is some language in it. Wouldn’t it be nice if books could be rated so we knew before purchasing. At any rate, The story is worth the read.

Good book

Story was good, narrator was very good, story was just too short. 5 chapters? Not enough to waste a credit.

Good but very short

I didn't enjoy the performance of this book. First some weird music comes on at the beginning and end of the book like unsolved mysteries. The person reading in my opinion was way to dark. I didn't like the whispering or the attempt at different voices for the characters.

Great story...but

Starts out very slow going over past things, it is interesting and does get exciting but so short and not worth a credit. Because of it being only 5 chapters and two of them are taking up with the past that you already know if you have read the books before I almost didn't finish it. I did enjoy and found some of it exciting. I did work it out early on but there are a few surprises.

The narration was good, good character voices and good emotions but there were a few places where it skip or dragged. I always knew who was talking and their feeling, there are no background noise, no repeating of words and really no background noise but for the dragging.

It was ok has a good ending

My first read of Lisa Gartner and a very pleasent surprise! Equally important from an audiobook standpoint, the narrator does an excellent job bringing life to the characters while providing above average pace and cadence to her read. Add an outstanding storyline with enough twists and turns to keep you listening long after you reach your destination, and you have a winner!

Outstanding Book and Narration

Would you listen to Gone again? Why?

It was entertaining but no reason for me to listen to it twice... there are a LOT of good books out there for me to listen to.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

...a great balance of descriptions and action

What about Kirsten Kairos???s performance did you like?

clarity good

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

...couple of giggles... a little laughter is nice.

Any additional comments?

none

Gone was good

I've tried to follow Rainie and Quincy through all of the books since they first met up and I really enjoyed this one, just like all of the others. My only disappointment was in Quincy's demeanor - it just didn't sound like him. While there was no doubt that Rainie was "his wife" and he was distraught over her disappearance, he just didn't seem to add much to the investigation. Neither did his daughter Kimberley. Still, loved the story and it kept me quessing and made me tear up at the end (but not a lame ending - don't worry!). Excellent job!

Great listen!
