Publisher's summary

A dynasty of women triumphs in the fiercely male-dominated world of high fashion amid the ruins of war. A daughter honors her mother's ultimate sacrifice - by becoming a ruthless businesswoman who will stop at nothing to raise high her family's name. Another daughter seeks to flee the toxic legacy of her family and live in peace. And both daughters have a date with destiny in a vault filled with Nazi gold...treasure that will alter the courses of both their lives....

Goodbye, Janette is a late masterpiece by Harold Robbins, America's most commercially successful and era-defining author of pulp fiction. The creator of erotic and ferocious turbocharged narratives of the soul-stricken rich and famous, Harold Robbins was in his day a close runner-up to Shakespeare and the Bible in numbers of books sold. Today his ability to create an unstoppable, mesmeric tale - someone famously said about him, "In Harold's books, the pages turn your fingers" - pushes him to the front ranks of pop novelists as new generations discover his awesome power.

Epic and intimate, moving from the icy nighttime streets of the Nazi occupation to the decadent beaches of St. Tropez, from the showrooms of Manhattan to the runways of Paris, Goodbye, Janette is a hypnotically gripping, mythic family saga of the power of blood to bind, to oppress, and finally to set free. Full of the shocking U-turns and unexpected revelations that make Harold Robbins a master storyteller, Goodbye, Janette transports the listener to a chic, dreamlike world where everyone wants an all-access pass...but the penalties for staying may be severe.

Dry Mouth

Barbara Rosenblat's swallows can be heard throughout the reading. Although her voice is a good fit for the story, it often sounds like she needs water to eliminate the smacking.

the none stop thrills

there was nothing to dislike, the ups and downs were in perfect alignment with the story, I was unable to take myself away from the gripping details.
the only disappointment was it's abrupt ending.

Goodbye Janette

Most critics dismissed Harold Robbins as a poor writer, but he was good at creating readable stories that were usually based on real people and real situations. Goodbye Janette is a window into the world of the Eurotrash. The characters are unpleasant, but many people are. I really liked the novel. The narrator is talented, but her harsh New York accent seems inappropriate to this particular story.

Gritty

A very enthralling and complex story about the best and the worst of the human condition set in the background of survival, wealth, heraldry and position. An eye opener especially for women.

Absolutely brilliant!

I absolutely loved this book.
It was written according to how it was at that time and without all the "filters" we have today.
Perfect narrator for this book.

stupid ending

I listened to the whole thing thinking all the gratuitous sex and drug use was leading to something.... I should have known better with a Robbins book. My bad. With that said the narrator was awesome.

Need a shower

Any additional comments?

I had read almost all of Harold Robbins when I was a teenager, I would get them out of the trash after my mom finished. I was excited to see these books on Audible, but this one, was pure trash, I did not like any of the characters and I did not care what happened to them, I think Jeanette's mom died just to get out of the story. This story like some of the others, that Mr. Robbins had written, has no redeeming values

Porn, violent sex

I love Barbara Rosenblat but this is a dirty disgusting novel. You don’t need tons of violent sex to support the story. I couldn’t finish.

Repulsive. I don't recommend it

There is too little real story in this book. All got buried under descriptions of brutal sex. The author seems to enjoy coming back to the scenes where a man with his "big thing" treats women like sluts. I endured almost two hours because the very beginning of the book and publisher's description promised something better. Don't be fooled though.
