About this listen

What should be a joyful homecoming to Pleasant Valley is soon marred by the sinister force that has been silently lying in wait to satiate its unnatural thirst.…

Karen Spellman is leaving Los Angeles behind, packing up her life and her daughters, and returning to her hometown to marry her high school sweetheart. In the countryside of her childhood, she is looking forward to a fresh start. But her life quickly turns dark and a malevolent force beyond her control threatens to take her daughters from her and ruin her dreams of a new life. Little does anyone know that an evil thought to be long dead has only been lying in wait, quietly anticipating the day when it will finally be able to satisfy its vengeful desires.

Predictable

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The idea was very interesting. I can absolutely see big industry testing like this and the average person would have no idea it is happening.

What about Tanya Eby’s performance did you like?

How she was able to portray the male characters voices.

Do you think The Homing needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, it was strange enough with adding a follow up to it

Any additional comments?

It is your typical John Saul book, centers around teenagers and kids. It is an alright listen, there were parts where my mind started to wonder and I would have to rewind. Typical single mom, single dad, meet and combine families in the beginning. Lots of teenage angst.

My favorite

I have read this book many times and it's always been a favorite. John Saul is an incredible writer who gives us many things to consider. Never dull or boring, Saul packs a punch

Brain Injury Survivor approved.

I have always liked John Saul books, and am enjoying the Audible versions. I used to be an avid reader, but since my brain injury occurred in 2013, I sometimes struggle with not only reading comprehension, but retaining what I read. My solution is Audible. If I have a physical copy of a book, sometimes I will follow along in the book while listening to the narrator. A way of retraining my brain.

Slow Start

I really enjoyed the narration. However, the intrigue was slow to start. Once you get into the heart of the story you can't stop until the end. Although, I was a little disappointed with the ending. I'm a huge John Saul fan and as much as I did enjoy this book it's just not my favorite.

The ending was a letdown.

I enjoyed how the suspense kept building but I did not like the ending is of killing off so many kids, especially, Julie and Kevin,

a new phobia?

I have never been afraid of any insects, in my entire life. but, after reading this book, for the next week every time I saw a bee, my heart skipped a beat and I almost freaked out. i love John Sauls books, ever since i picked up the first book i ever read of his, "The Devil's Labyrinth." when I was 12 or 13. havent been able to put his books down yet, and dont suspect I ever will.

Immersive voice acting!

Overall story ,great. Voice acting immersive and well done. Yet the ending is a cliffhanger and not quite satisfactory. I didn't quite understand the ending. I would have liked the ending to also include the family story or afterthought.

NOT what was expected

Would you try another book from John Saul and/or Tanya Eby?

yes

What could John Saul have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not sure this one could be enjoyable - but better details of what it is about would have helped me choose NOT to purchase it.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

No - I love Tonya Eby

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Homing?

The WHOLE book

Any additional comments?

This is more of a syfi and not my cup of tea

This story repeats itself A LOT

If you’ve listened to books by John Saul before, how does this one compare?

I love John Saul, but... this book is always repeating the SAME thing. Which, in my opinion makes the story seem less interesting as I have already heard/read the same thing over and over again.

What aspect of Tanya Eby’s performance would you have changed?

Tanya Eby's performance was very clear and clean. Very good!

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Homing?

Stop the re-hash over and over again. Otherwise it was a great story.

Any additional comments?

It was a great story, very well written. EXCEPT the repeating... what was to me a A+ book was sadly dropped down to a B.. pushing a C.
