About this listen

A perfect blend of medical drama and spiritual insight, Gray Matter is a fascinating account of Dr. David Levy's decision to begin asking his patients if he could pray for them before surgery. Some are thrilled. Some are skeptical. Some are hostile, and some are quite literally transformed by the request.

Each chapter focuses on a specific case, opening with a detailed description of the patient's diagnosis and the procedure that will need to be performed, followed by the prayer request. From there, listeners follow as Dr. Levy performs the operation, and then we wait - right alongside Dr. Levy, the patients, and their families - to see the final results.

Dr. Levy's musings on what successful and unsuccessful surgical results imply about God, faith, and the power of prayer are honest and insightful. As we see him come to his ultimate conclusion that, no matter what the results of the procedure are, "God is good," we cannot help but be truly moved and inspired.

I liked the interesting stories but mostly I liked hearing how he was able to overcome his hesitation to talk to people about spiritual things. He shared his struggles and they are the same ones I face, and I loved how he shared his patients issues, and how praying and sharing the love of Christ for them and His desire to forgive them and have a relationship with them, was a welcome help to most.
God is real and it's silly that we are afraid to talk about him with others. Especially since his heart is to hear from them. He really does love all of us and is waiting to hear.

I really liked this book!

It was not an accident that I stumbled upon this book...it was divine revelation! This book rekindled my faltering faith and gave me the courage to open up to my daughter about my doubts, and to pray to God in Jesus’ name for restoration and forgiveness. That’s true healing! Amen!

I am not the person to cry while listening to a book, but this one definitely got me a few times. I really liked it, but not sure its for everyone, there are some really emotional stories involved, and it really shows the impact that a simple prayer can have on peoples lives.

A true telling of faith and prayer in the medical setting that inspires a genuine caring and reaching out in compassion to share a hope beyond what is seen.

Listening to the book, “Gray Matter by Dr. David Levy”, stirs many memories of long hours in waiting rooms while neurosurgeons worked on our two children. Telling the whole story of our two children would fill volumes, but I can say this, neurosurgeons do care, and so does God. This work is a witness to God’s love, and a physician’s journey. I highly recommend this work.

I loved this book! As some who has several medical problems and sees several doctors throughout the year, I wish more doctors felt like him and put their trust in God and let their light shine and minister to patients, rather than behave like they are a god!

What a great book!

Dr. Levi’s documentation strongly supports our humanity’s need for faith in God and in His healing. Having medical personnel share that belief and service to the Lord reaches out to people in their time of need and gives credence to the One, Holy and Power of God.
Humility and forgiveness is our road to healing.

Inspiring!
