About this listen

Remy Devereux is an ace homicide detective with the SFPD. At work, she's embroiled in a months-long murder investigation that has yet to show any signs of breaking. At home, she's on the skids with her soon-to-be ex-girlfriend, while nightmares of the gruesome murder scene keep her up at night.

On the other side of the country, Giana Falco has just made the biggest change in her life. She's ended her engagement and now she's moving to the west coast to take a job as a forensic scientist in a town where she knows practically no one.

Sparks fly the moment Remy and Giana meet. Remy has never seen a woman more intelligent or more beautiful than her new colleague, but she knows that allowing herself to fall for a straight woman would be a uniquely masochistic kind of folly. For her part, Giana is intrigued by the tall and reticent detective. She sees no reason why the two of them shouldn't become the best of friends.

The stakes couldn't be higher as the two women put their heads together to work the case, drawing ever closer to finding the killer-and ever closer to finding each other. Try as they might to ignore it, the attraction they feel becomes something neither one of them can deny.

not a whole lot of suspense but it's ok.

it's about 90% romance, 5% suspense and 5% betrayal. it's OK. I don't think I'd listen to it again. but it's ok

Gray Matters

This is a great true crime romance!

Remy and Giana were a mess... but a beautiful mess! From colleagues to friends to more than friends. I mean, you can feel their connection as they get to know each other, and when things start to heat up between them, it's like 🔥🔥🔥. But there are so many things that get in the way - like a murder case - and it just adds to the thrill and excitement of the story!

Great writing, great characters (I really enjoyed Remy and Giana) - I look forward to more from this author.

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH

Y’all. You don’t even understand how much I love this book. I wrote a raving, glowing review about it on Goodreads when I first read it earlier this year. When I saw that it had been turned into an audiobook I darn near lost my ever loving mind.

It is astonishing that this is Miss Arden‘s DEBUT novel because it because it is Just. So. Good. The highlights:

1 - The story is well structured, perfectly paced, and keeps you reading.
2 - The writing is excellent and pretty much flawlessly edited.
3 - The characters nearly jump off the page they are so well fleshed out.
4 - Oh my lord, the romance. It is almost too easy to tumble into and obsess over. Seriously. I may honestly be obsessed with Giana and Remy. Their connection is both explosively sexual and yet deeply emotional. This author could write an entire series around them and I would weep with joy. They are honestly one of the most dynamic couples I have had the privilege to journey with. This is coming from someone who reads almost one lesfic book A DAY.

Those are the general highlights. I would throw in the huge BONUS that neither of the MC’s are a white Anglo-Saxon, blonde haired, blue-eyed girl. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being any of those things. I only mean to say that as a woman of color, it is rare that I pick up a romance and have the privilege of reading about a phenomenal MAIN CHARACTER who looks and speaks like me, as well as comes from a culture I can identify with. I am so grateful to have this book/audiobook in my library to vibe with!

To conclude, this novel is outstanding and the audiobook is splendid (excellent work, Melissa Moran). That is my final judgment and I will die on that hill. Stop reading my review and just buy it already.

Lovely Romance with a Murder Mystery

This book was definitely a good listen! The lesbian detective/cop is working on a murder case and the new, sexy, straight, forensic scientist in town is there to help... in more ways than one. Their relationship starts off as friends and sort of work colleagues, but they eventually become more. The forensic scientist was such a good character. When they finally really have sex together there were moments I laughed at how in control the straight lady was and she told the cop exactly what to do... there were some semi stressful moments but all ended perfectly. loved the audiobook. the narration was good. Audible needs more from this author! :)

Can’t judge a girl by her cover! WOW!

A great bonus in this book is the forensic science used in catching a serial killer! The setting and characters are exciting- a detective, her cop partner, the District Attorney and a forensic scientist working together to solve the case! In terms of judging a “straight” leading lady by her cover, here’s a little clue- this is a sapphic romance novel! I didn’t give the narrator a good rating BUT, she has a great voice and her male characters are good, so it’s still a good experience. The issue is that she starts out at least trying to differentiate her female characters but soon, they all sound the same! You just have to pay attention or rewind sometimes to be clear about who is saying what to whom. The HEA is a bit underwhelming- where was the editor? Still, overall this is a great book with interesting characters. The New Orleans culture in the story is fantastic. And there’s some very nice spice where a certain girl might be wearing the clothes of a sweet little sheep novice to disguise the fact that she’s really a wolf!
