About this listen

A standalone romance from the New York Times best-selling author of Archer's Voice.

Kira Dallaire is desperate. Some challenges in life seem too hard to overcome. With little money and even fewer options, the quick-witted and vibrant 22-year-old needs to reinvent herself. Known for her generous heart and impulsive personality, she devises a survival plan - possibly her most outrageous idea yet.

Grayson Hawthorn is losing hope. Some obstacles in life seem too hard to overcome. Betrayal definitely being one of them. With limited capital and dwindling resources, he is attempting to resurrect his failing family vineyard - a self-imposed vow seemingly destined to fail. That is until a young woman enters his office with an outlandish, unexpected proposition that's impossible to refuse.

What begins as a temporary business arrangement soon evolves into more as vivacious, spirited Kira challenges detached, arrogant Grayson to want more from life. To want more for himself. But as their wills clash and fiery passion ignites, they'll realize that sometimes the past creates walls too difficult to climb and that lies and deception rarely precede a happily ever after. As Kira and Grayson race toward their destiny, they will discover that some vows are meant to be broken, and others are worth risking everything for...even your very own heart.

Wow, what a disappointment

What happened to the 5 star master story teller? Mia Sheridan is one of my absolute new favorites but this book was hugely disappointing. I've read/listened to almost all of her other books up to now and LOVED every one of them. This one was SO repetitive, I wanted to scream and stop half way through. I kept asking myself - was this truly by Mia Sheridan?!! It was your typical, cookie cutter, "woe is me, I'm not staying, so I can't get involved" dialog over & over & OVER!.I get it already!!! It's like beating a dead horse every other minute. And they didn't have sex until towards the end, which then became tedious to the story. Normally, when I get to the end of one of her books, I bask in the warm fuzzies and then go through withdrawals, missing the characters. This one? Not so much.

Still, I'm waiting for her next book, Midnight Lily, to go audible so I hope she hasn't sunk to the level of mediocre, formulaic, repetitive, dime-a-dozen romance authors. And I hope she doesn't keep using Maxine Mitchell as narrator because she over emphasizes all her words and it's extremely distracting and annoying. Nobody talks like that in real life so why ruin a good story by talking weird? Joe Arden was excellent as the male voice, otherwise it would have been a total loss.

Not so predictable

Enjoyed the story and the male narrator was good. Female voice did not match the character, sounded older than 22. There were a couple of times I thought I knew where the story was going but thank goodness it did not.

Good Listen

Really enjoyed this book. I love it when there is a epilogue and the authors continues the characters story into the future.

Grays Huge Hot Mess

Talk about two people who weren't more suited for eachother, these two...Gray and Kiera, were the most unlucky pair with "Life's "choices for them. Both grew up wealthy, but unloved, abused and demoralized by their parents.Being adults didn't make things any better or easier for either of them. Some how, their lives were entwined together and there was a plan devised that was supposed to make both their lives better and hopefully in the long run...easier,but as"their fate"would have it,it was only more of an uphill battle, more abuse, more demoralization, but as "life"would sometimes have it,there were people who did care, took steps to becoming supportive towards their efforts in making the better of things and for those who have been good supporters all along, and even some shockingly surprising support from an unlikely person aswell. These two have been through so much in their lives, together and separate,I'm happy to say that they were able to get their happily ever after together in the end.

Wonderful story! Loved it!

Mia has written another wonderful story! I found it one to be savored, each & every part! I learned about winemaking, treachery within familes, compassion from stranges & to never give up hope. The love relationship was sizzling HOT with the perfect amount of build-up with loads of fun along the way!🔥
ENJOY!!

Great story, good narration!

Any additional comments?

I love Mia Sheridan! Seriously, all of her books are great and they're only getting better with each one.

This book was no exception. The romance was a slow build-up completely believable. The heroin was great as was the hero (albeit he was a little broody at times).

The female lead has one of the best personalities of any I've read in a long time. She's a free spirit but vulnerable too, she has a playful side and was completely sweet without being an eye-rolling Mary Sue. There's so many female leads in fiction-land that make me want to gouge my eyes and ears out while reading/listening to a story, so when I come across such a well written one I get really excited!

There was a lot more going on with this book than just the romance. Both the leads had separate issues to deal with (as is the case with all of Mia's books) and they were both handled very well while flowing together nicely with one another.

Great book, I can't recommend this enough!

Making a deal!

I enjoyed Kira's guts to approach Grayson with a proposition. Complete strangers helping one another or are they? I removed a star for the turmoil "I" went through listening to this, (LOL) and their stubbornness. Narration by a couple of my favorites didn't disappoint! I love MS books! YES, worth my credit.
