About this listen

From mega-bestseller and TikTok sensation Mia Sheridan comes an all-new epic second-chance romance with an unexpected and gritty speculative twist.

When the world is plunged into darkness,
Who would you turn to?
Amid the sun-drenched orange groves of California, childhood friends Tuck Mattice and Emily Swanson shared a bond that seemed unbreakable—until life ripped them apart.

Thirteen years later, Emily is a rising pop sensation in need of security, and Tuck, a brooding ex-con, is in need of a fresh start. When fate brings them together once again, Emily hires him on as her new bodyguard. They butt heads and bicker, just like the old days—yet neither can deny the heat rekindling between them.

But when a cataclysmic solar flare disrupts the electrical grid, society is suddenly plunged into chaos and darkness. For Emily, the familiar comforts of fame and fortune crumble, but for Tuck, this stark new reality could be the chance he needs to finally prove himself. As they come to terms with all they've lost and the bitterness that's kept them apart, they must find their way back to one another and discover a new place, under the sun.

I love a wonderful ending to a story that goes against all odds. wonderful plot, and great narration. So far, I have not been disappointed at one story by this author.

Not sure why this is getting poor reviews it was a really good and interesting story. Narrators did a great job.

Really good listen

I love Mia Sheridan. in another time period, I might have been able to enjoy this book. however, it's very dark and in this era of climate change and Trump's terrifying policies, I'm feeling very anxious all the time. I read romance novels too not think about the fact that the world around me feels like it's crumbling. this book did nothing to assuage that anxiety. I ended up not being able to finish it because just felt two real. maybe not the cause but the consequences. if you're someone who has legitimate concerns about what's happening on our planet today, this one might be difficult for you. regardless of all of this, it's still another great Mia Sheridan story.

well writte story

Great characters although early in the story they were selfish and self-absorbed, quick to judge. But when a life altering event occurs, it’s about survival and learning what each other can and will do while learning the same of yourself.

Tuck and Emily have a past. Childhood friends, neighbors and secret crushes. Life and poor decisions took Tuck away while Emily found herself living her biggest dream.

The journey across the country is hard and no functioning technology of any kind exists. Kindness and cooperation are hard to give and get. It’s truly a survival of the fittest and smartest.

The journey to the end goal is as hard as the goal itself. But live can still exist in dystopian society and fighting for the one you love may be the most redeeming quality.

This was stressful to read at times if you could imagine this happening in real life. But it really is an amazing story and a must read!

There was just nothing to this book. It wasn't categorized as YA but that's what it seemed to me. Very basic, very boring
