About this listen

Once upon a time...

Far from the concrete and steel of Boston, the town of Northwood nestles beneath the summit of Mount Sugarloaf. The quiet community seems like the perfect place for Steve and Diane Nailer to raise their family of two children with a third on the way. Their new home is perched on the edge of a forest. A trail through the woods leads to an old Victorian mansion that once housed the town mortuary. But the memories of the dearly departed are the least of what lurks there....

Eleanor Grimm is a woman of desperate cunning, possessing unfathomable power. Driven by the dark magic, she has bewitched the parents of Northwood, keeping them spellbound and distracted from her true agenda: claiming the most innocent children to satisfy her hungers. True evil is no fairy tale.

"Gates writes with such all-stops-out intensity that even Stephen King's faithful followers will begrudgingly admit the presence of an heir to the throne." (Publishers Weekly)

I grew up reading King, Koontz, Saul and the likes so it's easy to say I love horror novels. This book did not disappoint.

I am not going to give any spoilers but when you are screaming at a character in a book to watch out or don't go down that hall, or purposely rooting for them out loud you know it's a good book.

Full of scary nail biting moments.

Easily I can put this book in my favorites list on Audible.

I'm Floored

Horror fairytale at its finest, kept me engrossed which is hard to do. Be aware it has some pretty gruesome parts and the details are pretty on point with the savagery.

One of the best I've listened to!

It was a different take on Grimm fairy tails, wicked witch and all. Some parts were pretty juvenile. The narrator drove me nuts-there are several parts where she comes in with an entirely different microphone. Overall ok for passing the time.

Ok story

A Different View of fairy tails. This story was certainly different. All.kids love fairy tales. But I wouldn't trust those you see for real. For they will.decieve you and pull you into their evil world. I really enjoyed the unique style of this story. I find it really refreshing when I come across an audio book that speaks for itself. A good scary story, even for an older lady like.me. The narrator was awesome. clear spoken and good with different voices for each character so you know clearly who was talking.

Old witches and a spin on fairy tales. Oh My !!!

I loved Grimm Memorials. This is old-school, no-holes-barred horror. This is the story of a family that moves into a new house in a small in Massachusetts town and guess what - there's a witch living in an old, dilapidated funeral home in the forest behind their house. Spooky, gory and not PC at all by today's standards, I loved it. The narrator does a great job with the story but there are some technical problems with this audio book such as background noise and repeated words. But other than that it was an awesome listen. I give it a solid B+.
