About this listen

Law professor Thomas Jackson McMurtrie literally wrote the book on evidence in the state of Alabama. But when a power-hungry colleague uses a recent run-in between McMurtrie and headstrong student Rick Drake to end his career, he is left unsure what to do next.

Meanwhile, a devastating trucking accident in Henshaw, Alabama, leaves a young family dead. Drake, now a fledgling lawyer, takes the case against the freight carrier and soon begins to uncover the truth behind the tragedy that is buried in a tangled web of arson, bribery, and greed. On the eve of the trial and with his case unraveling in the midst of a dangerous cover-up that threatens to silence his star witnesses, Drake realizes that only his estranged mentor, Professor McMurtrie, can help him now.

With everything to lose and only justice to gain, will McMurtrie and Drake overcome bad blood to defeat a ruthless adversary? Can the Professor turn back the clock and recover all that he’s lost?

This is a remarkable debut novel, one of the best mysteries I can recall. I'm not a great Alabama fan, but I do know about the legendary Bear Bryant. The author knows the law and football; he even knows how to write. I look forward to the next in the series.

Great mystery. Terrific characters.

This is an attention-holding legal procedural. The characters aren't drawn very deeply, but the plot is interesting as it unfolds the development of the legal case, and there were personal conflicts along the way. I usually read cozy mysteries, but this was a nice change of pace without too much grit or gore, though there was some. I'll probably read more in the series.

Good Legal Procedural

The audio was a good listen. The characters carried the story, which makes it worth reading or listening to. The evidence investigation and court case was interesting. My cation is that there is a suspension of reality you have to make at the beginning with the main character's courtroom experience and the unnecessary moments of over the top melodrama which are not needed as the author's story is compelling without those instances. I did enjoy the story and would read another from this author.

Good frantic story

Well developed protagonists and secondary characters. Story is woven together without loose ends. You will root for a positive outcome in the face of a defendant who stops at nothing to assure the multimillion sale of his company.

Well done, well delivered story; punctuated by courtroom drama

More engaging than I thought it would be. I had to buy the next one.

Wish there were more !

The story was pretty predictable, but with a little twist. Although I belong to the post-war generation. I don't usually enjoy books about the older generation. Especially if they have subhuman capabilities and live in a bar. At first I thought, oh no; but it actually turns into a nice story. If you are looking a break from some heavier reading, this is a quick feel good book

Good morale story for the post-WW2 crowd

I enjoyed this from start to finish. Solid story line with like-able and hate-able characters. The narration was excellent. I will look for more books narrated by this performer.
