Savory plot burdened by excess "spice"

Legal and medical scenarios interplay effectively and characters are well-developed in an effective "who-done-it." Additional angles of view are seen in glimpses of the wealthy, the middle-class, lower class, and finally, the slime of Miami. Narrator's voice was typically grating, but cast an appropriate edginess to the setting. Definitely not necessary to the story was overdose of gratuitous sexual detail.

Lassiter is the man!!

This is my first Jake Lassiter novel and I really enjoyed it.
It offers great insight into courtroom tactics while the mystery develops, at times tinged with offbeat humor.
You can be sure I will read the whole series. Highly recommended.

Good Start to Series

Begins a little confusing but not long until the action pulls you in. Creepy characters and twists and turns make it hard to figure out who the bad guy or guys are. A manipulator and a
a god complex. Whose who. Enjoy.

Excellent story

This author writes characters with depth and a plot that never gives away the truths until the end. Well performed, the different voices artfully done and easy to distinguish. This story was written with humor splashed into every chapter. I’ll get more of his books.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!

The Jake Lassiter Series starts out with what I think is the best of the series. Plot twists keep you guessing, as there are several possible' perps' Lassiter is witty but not as smart-ass as in later episodes. Wonderful introductions to Charlie and Granny - these seem like the kind of people you'd like to sit next to at a fancy dinner. Guaranteed no boredom. ....And CREEPY ending!

Unexpectedly delightful and funny... worth it!

I have downloaded over 20 books this year bases on other Audible users opinions and ratings. All higher rated than this... but this was the best so far. A serious mystery/thriller with a good dash or humor and intrigue. Painfully slow to start with but soon picks up. Obviously many average and pathetic books are saved by Luke Daniels narration but this one pretty much held its own. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

What a fun little mystery

I wasn't sure when I started this book that I was going to stay with it. But once I got used to the narration, I found the main characters dry humor and pace to be quite entertaining. The story is well composed, and the court scene play out well, if not a little familiar, but his wit gives some freshness to the story.

Great courtroom mystery!

Loved the first preview story and was excited to get the first full story in the series. Absolutely loved this book. Characters are likable or horrible as required in their place in the series. The actor was very good maybe a little over the top on the antagonists but still good. Excited to ‘read’ every one in this series. So worth the time!
