About this listen

On January 1st, 2020, the comet hit, and a good chunk of the people on Earth died or turned into mutants.

But some people gained powerful magical abilities.

You would think that the fall of humankind would usher in a time of peace and happiness for the survivors, but since powerful people tend to be assholes, life got worse, and these mages enslaved those who couldn’t protect themselves.

I have magic too, but not just any magic.

I can summon guns, and nothing kills asshole mages better than a bullet through the brain.

Disclaimer: This is a slow-burn harem series with explicit sex scenes.

Fun start to the series

The concept of the gun mage is a neat one. Being able to use magic to summon firearms is something that, I believe, has been done in fantasy and urban fantasy before, but not with this sort of a backdrop. It’s a fun little story, but a little slow to get out of the gate. I would still recommend the book, but be patient as it takes time for the story to rev up.

it was meh.

the writer obviously has vary little knowledge of firearms and treats the reader like they're dumb explaining small details you can pick up by context from the sentence before it.

Slow burn indeed

Is this the wild west? Not quite - it's a post-apocalyptic earth. A world in which mages rule the land, plastics and technology are outlawed, and owning a gun is a capital offense. The hero discovers an affinity for guns and the beginnings of a grand destiny. He is constantly on the run from the mages that want him dead.

This is a harem series, but the hero only gets involved with - or even flirts with - one woman in this book. Presumably others come along in future books in the series.

The voice acting is good. Having multiple narrators helps. The character voices are distinct, even for minor characters - although they get rather cartoonish at times.

Good Introduction to a New World and Series

The story has good character development, introducing a tantalizing amount of depth as the story picks up momentum. In the end, the tale feels like a frantic headlong rush forward while struggling against a Nazi-like wizard consortium, vicious dogs, a dragon, and more! I am a weapon-specialist, at least that's what my DD-214 calls my former military role of more than a decade. This doesn't mean I expect or prefer a martial storyline, but it does mean I can be very fussy about technical details regarding mechanical function and marksmanship. So far, I am really enjoying this tale! The hero isn't arbitrarily shooting everything in sight, and the story isn't kill crazy. However, the main character does make the same stupid mistakes almost every novice makes when first introduced to firearms. Fortunately, the author uses a mentor-type interaction to introduce the critical importance of weapon safety, which the young character takes to heart. I only wish my own students had listened that readily in real-life! The story has an interesting spin on the future. This is a fast-paced, steam-punky, adventure with a nice blend of sci-fi and fantasy. I just wish this first book had been longer! It would be nice if the story slowed down a bit to provide a little more detail about the world they live in, and for further character development. I am seriously looking forward to reading Book 2!

Stuff

The main character is an absolute imbecile has the most op combat power so far but couldn’t find his own ass to wipe it unless someone put his hand on it good lord he’s a retard outside of that great storyline so far no problems otherwise only a few chapters in so hopeful it improves will revise if MC grows more than the two brain cells he’s rubbing together

Good book

This was a good book. Not my favorite from the author. still entertaining if a little bit slow. Hoping the story picks up in book 2 and adds some more elements besides mage on mage fighting and a couple guns. That said, it is worth the purchase and listen if you like the author.
